Anyone else wash their hair with just conditioner - the no poo method

Have started doing this recently and my hair is going much longer between washes without getting greasy now. I am really impressed!!

I use about a 5p sized amount of conditioner and spend about 2 minutes thoroughly massaging it into my hair. Then I rinse it out and put conditioner on the ends as I would normally if I was using shampoo. I comb it through, and wrap it in a towel while I wash my face and brush my teeth and then rinse out.

It's fab. My friend told me about it. She has been doing it for the last couple of years and says her hair is in such good condition her hairdresser recommended to only get it trimmed about every 7 months.

Just asked my friend and she doesn't use shampoo as she wears a swimming cap so her hair doesn't get wet.

It's also the silicones and sulphates in shampoos that damage our hair.

Sounds fabulous!! My hair has gone awful recently Nappy, which I've talked about in the Oil Cleansing method thread, and this technique sounds brilliant to me.
Especially the one for the "wavy" girls. My hair would be wavy if I didn't straighten it, and quite frankly I feel like leaving it to dry naturally from now on.
I feel with this method that it might be possible.
I've read that you should dilute a tiny amount of shampoo in water anyway, and that's where I've been going wrong I think,
not only i was washing my hair more often recently (twice instead of once a week), I was using a lot of shampoo and doing it twice as well.
Although I always use conditioner, I always make sure that I rinse it thoroughly, which is the wrong thing to do according to your link.
She says to do it briefly for a few seconds.

It does say that it might look greasy for up to 4 weeks whilst your hair gets used to having to produce less oil. Another site describes it like the supply and demand in breastfeeding. If baby keeps feeding the body produces more milk. If you keep washing your hair and stripping away the oil on your head it will produce more oil. If you suddenly stop breastfeeding or reduce the amount of feeds your body will have excess milk for a while but will then settle down to normal. If you suddenly stop washing your hair as much as you did before you will have excess oil for a while but then it will balance out.

I tried this last month.

Was awful. I tried to wait for the oil to balance out but it was so greasy by the 2nd week i gave in.

Might give it another go in Summer when my hair gets drier.

Dry shampoo was a godsend for me in the first few weeks whilst my hair was sorting itself out.

how about coloured hair? my hair is short but i colour it a lot and get v annoyed with it fading out. am an oil cleansing devotee so might give this a go too as hair has fuzz tendencies...

and can i just add that in the light of the thread title that i have never let any poo of any description other than the shampoo variety anywhere near my head

MN it's very good for coloured hair. It's the shampooing that fades coloured hair quickly.

Sounds disgusting but until recently my husband hadn't washed his hair for 7 years.
He's only recently started washing it again, for some odd reason, and frankly now his hair looks exactly the same as it's always looked.
Clean.
I remember it did take a while for it to balance itself out, it looked a bit on the dirty side to begin with. It's alright for men, but I couldn't do it.
I might try your method though nappy, I don't care if it looks greasy to begin with as I too use dry shampoo on my roots in between washes usually.

sadly this method is great for my hair but my scalp not being washed sets of my psoriosis horribly (weird coz you'd think no chemicals would cure it completely )

just a warning to anyone who gets very uncomfortable if they go more than a couple of days without washing their hair, this method may not suit you.

We never regularly use shampoo on my son's hair - he's now 5.

We've had to use it to remove hair dye (red nose day!) and for nits and it went all fluffy and lost it's shine for a few days every time !

He has a bath every morning and just uses a jug/shower head/empty bottle to rinse his hair and get rid of the bed-head effect !

Does he have short or long hair? I don't use shampoo on DS but do have to use conditioner cos it's quite long and get's very tangled.

He has short hair - not clippered but probably only 1-2 inches maximum.

There's probably so much bubble bath & shower gel in the bath water by the time he tips it over his head - he's a bubble freak - that it acts as it's own shampoo !

I only wash DD's hair once every two weeks.
Obviously unless she's got food in it or something (it's very long nearly down to her waist she's nearly 5).
But even then it doesn't look dirty it's just me thinking "Oh my god it hasn't been washed for 2 weeks". I might wait even longer between washes.
Her hair is so gorgeous, I'm sure at that age they don't need have it washed that often.
I make sure that I brush her hair upside down gently to get rid of any dust.
In fact, even on the subject of bathing and showering kids (should be another thread I know), my kids (2 and 4) only have a bath/shower every other day.
I clean DD's "foofoo" everyday so she "enters" the bath everyday so to speak but I don't do her entire body everyday.
DS isn't potty trained yet so I clean his bum+willy every day when nappy changing.
In fact, Nappy, what do you think, are we aloud to apply a few drops of sweet almond oil on a baby's bum? Even to clean it instead of using baby lotion?

I use emu oil or almond oil to clean DS' bum when he does a yucky pooh. Otherwise just water.

right, i have not washed my hair since my last post on this thread soooo...a week! oh. thought it was longer.

anyway...as i have short hair i think i can get away with it, in fact, it is much easier to handle and style this way, however, if it was longer i do not think i would be looking very good...

so...short version - i like it! am still waiting for the self cleaning thing to kick in and will post back when it does!

gosh i am saving money...no shampoo...no cleanser aprt from raiding my kitchen cupboards
