Need a moisturiser for very dry and sensitive skin

My skin is so dry (not flaky) that the only moisturiser that releives the the dryness is Astral but its so greasy it brings me out in red pimples or blotches. Ive tried so many over the years for dry skin but they just dont relieve the dryness. Please has anyone got any recommendations?

I tried the Garnier one - think it's called Total Comfort or something like that. It's very thick but sinks in nicely and helped with my dry winter skin.

Korres rose day cream - gentle, very moisturising

same price roughly as Dr Hauschka but it's thicker and paler in colour (less fragrance)

I have the same sort of skin you describe -have tried various over the years, both cheap and expensive and I now always buy the Simple one...theres a light one and a thicker (sorry cant rememebr the names) and the thicker one is great.

I also use the simple night cream but avoid the cleanser as that seems too strong.

I also use the vaseline intensive care one for extra dry skin (which is very good) and failing that, on very flaky skin, I use Diprobase or Epaderm. You need to ask for Diprobase (that's my preferred one) - it's an emollient used for eczema but it is very good at soothing that type of skin. I'm a big fan of it and I don't find it that greasy. Epaderm is much more greasy, almost vaseline like, so I only use that on places like my elbows.

I like Liz Earle's cleanse and polish and toner for dry skin but, like you, I don't like the moisturiser. I also use Liz Earle intensive nourishing treamtment once a week which is fab.

I alternate between two moisturisers: Olay Total Effects 7x (anti-aging and blemish care) so I don't get spots and also Superdrug Rejenate & Restore day cream.

Neals Yard do both a rose and a frankincense moisturiser. Both are excellent oils for sensitive skin - especially rose. Can heartily recommend.

Clinique would be a disaster as it's so harsh & literally strips the skin.

The best option is an oil & then a cream on top.

I'm currently using dermalogica intensive moisturiser with a facial oil & that's working.

Go to one of the big department stores & have a look at the various counters. Dauphin is good, quite expensive though.

Crabtree and Evelyn do a product called 'Soothing Comforting Complex'. (It was originally designed for skin which has undergone cosmetic procedures and is red and raw. ) I have very dry skin and find that really brilliant. It's gentle, keeps skin moisturised and isn't greasy (and they have it the online outlet sale at the mo for under a fiver!!)

Clarins do a really good oil that isn't at all greasy, I'll try to remember what it is...

I completely agree with shortcircuit - it REALLY helps to use an oil and then a cream on top. I like one from REN called Omega something, it's pretty expensive (thirty quiddish) but great. But any oil that suits your skin would do.

I am a serious Decleor junkie. Im not a big believer in skin products but since using Decleor my skin has been amazing.

They do lots of different moisturisers, I have combination skin so mine would be no good, but I also use their oil underneath which balances my skin and then I need to use a lot less cream which at £50 a jar is a good move.

Estee Lauder do one called called Resilliance for dry/very dry skin.

It is brilliant.

Try and get the Night Repair Serum as well as it really is fab.

I got all the Liz Earle stuff and ended up after a month with a face full of boils - hideous stuff!

i have tried hundreds over the years and the best i've found is MARKS AND SPENCERS ROYAL JELLY AND HONEY FACIAL CREAM.

it is non greasy, but does wonders for dry skin and wrinkles! (not that i'm saying you have any wrinkle of course! just mine!)

it comes in a tub and is about £4.50. its the best fiver you'll ever spend in your life!

also the body cream in the same range is amazing. its megamoisturizing! if you put it on freshly shaved, fake tanned legs, you'll have super shiny shins!

you must all think i work for m&s, lol! i dont, its just really good stuff, and i hate to think of you wasting loadsa money on expensive stuff, which isn't as good.

I'm a fan of vaseline intensive care for extra dry skin - that or Aveeno Cream. Aveeno is the only one that doesn't sting when your skin is very very dry - and the vaseline is good for every day use. (and I get my Aveeno on prescription)

If your skin is really sensitive avoid anything with lanolin in it.
