Calling all Redheads or anyone to help with clothes colours please...

Have name changed for this one....I desperately need help please. As my name suggests I have ginger hair (straight, shoulder length) and I always find myself wearing brown, black, beige all the time. I would love some advice on what other colours would suit me (I have a fair complexion too). I really can't wear such dull colours all spring and summer again......
Please help me!

Stop wearing brown! I had very red hair as a child and it's all my mother dressed me in.

Honestly, I think strong colours look good - like the ones ruby suggests - just don't go for pale yellows or pastels, they just wash you out ime.

Mauves, violets and greys look fabulous on red heads.

I wear quite a lot of aubergine too, although I'm generally fair skinned I do tan to golden brown and have hazel eyes rather than being very pale with blue eyes so not sure if that makes a difference.

Dark grey and dark blue as well as kind of virgin mary colour blue look good on me.

Also black, white, bottle green, red.

I wouldn't wear teal with black. Better with brown. eg. teal top brown skirt.

Oh, and purple.

I think colours which are more 'greyish' in tone can work - so any colour, as long as it's not a bright version of that colour, such as this?

I'm just looking on Monsoon for myself. I think I would look nice in these colours. Kind of random, but what the heck!

I know this colour would suit me

purple

paler blue

grey green

pale grey

white and colour

red

just because I like this dress - it has a nice pattern

Wow, thank you so much for all the advice. I am obviously alone in being afraid of colour as you all wear fabulous colours! LaTrucha, I adore that grey green top!

I just wanted to thank you lovely mumsnetters for all the help you gave me last week. I have had a very successful shopping trip and my wardrobe now contains teal, olive, green, and aubergine (that colour was a huge surprise - I loved it!). I also have a grey top on order!
Can I ask one more question? Do you continue to wear these colours in the spring/summer as they are quite rich colours?

Yes, I tend to wear rich colours all year round as pale colours make me look washed out.

Well done NuttyGinger. I also wear bright pink tops, look fine with my red not ginger hair.
Obviously, toned down with brown on the lower half.

I have blonde/pale red hair which goes a darker red (still blonde) in winter, green eyes and pale washed out skin that tans very easily. What a mess I really suit all shades of red, the brighter the better, and dark pinks. I tend to wear mostly black though. Strong colours (dark) whatever they be as opposed to pastels (light) suit red-heads better imo. I also think wearing a colour that matches your eyes is good for reds.

I have light red hair, which i sometimes dye blonde and somtimes dye red/copper. Green eyes and v pale skin so always wear fake tan, for light golden look. I like to wear cream, tan, black and green but sometimes pink and red too!

I saw trinny and suzanna harping on about colours and they reckoned that ginger types ought to stick to dirty tones, here

bigspender30 · 23/02/2009 18:08

I am using Dove the everyday one but if theres a better one out there, I would love to know!
