my mil has given me a small, square, incredibly soft and quite good quality black leather handbag

it is just the right size, is better quality than I can afford, feels so very nice and is in v v v good nick - like new

can I make it more exciting? or is boring black bag okay?

am bored by black bag. But like black bag. DYSWIM?

mazzystartled Wed 08-Oct-08 22:16:48

simple bag allows flamboyance in shoe dept surely

also good for doing minimal preppy neat and tidy look

would keep in handbag repertoire

Cappuccino Wed 08-Oct-08 22:18:01

I am not minimal or neat and tidy

<laughs heartily>

nor can I afford flamboyant shoes

LetThemEatCake Wed 08-Oct-08 22:19:06

Gok would add a corsage. Can you add a corsage?

majeika Wed 08-Oct-08 22:19:57

fake flower?

RedOnHerBeheadedHead Wed 08-Oct-08 22:20:13

stick on crystals?

PeaMcLean Wed 08-Oct-08 22:21:06

Yes, a corsage. there are some that are just fab and I would like an excuse to have one. I went shopping for corsages last week. Saw some gorgeous stuff in the little shops in the arcades (ie not the main department stores).

mazzystartled Wed 08-Oct-08 22:21:09

it may just be useful with certain outfits though, no?

don't go putting a corsage or anything on it or it will look really shite

mazzystartled Wed 08-Oct-08 22:21:39

pmsl at cross post

Cappuccino Wed 08-Oct-08 22:22:54

this is what I am thinking

but I fear I would make it look like a child had bedazzled it

Cappuccino Wed 08-Oct-08 22:23:21

fab vs shite

let's choose

mazzystartled Wed 08-Oct-08 22:24:15

what's your usual style like?

if you have one

PeaMcLean Wed 08-Oct-08 22:25:14

We need to see the bag. It's the only way.

Can you find a link to something similar?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow Wed 08-Oct-08 22:25:43

Perhaps a fairly minimalist corsage in shades of grey (like the make-it-yourself fascinators on last night's fashion prog)?

snowleopard Wed 08-Oct-08 22:25:47

Not that I know anything about this, but can't you get bag charm thingies that you hand on your bag, like little tassels and beady bits? (I remember seeing them in Grazia or some such and thinking "how pointless are they?" but actually...) Or you could make something like that with a few beads from a bead shop.

snowleopard Wed 08-Oct-08 22:26:08

hand = hang

Cappuccino Wed 08-Oct-08 22:26:20

oh yes we have great bead shop

LetThemEatCake Wed 08-Oct-08 22:41:17

please don't bedazzle.

buy a couple of corsages, diff colours - and don't attach too firmly, let them be interchangeable

JackieNo Wed 08-Oct-08 22:43:56

I agree with letthemeatcake - don't do anything you can't undo, so to speak.

Bobbiewickham Thu 09-Oct-08 10:02:21

Attach silk scarf to strap.

Can chop and change to suit different outfits then.

This is v trendy, am led to believe.

NappiesLaGore Thu 09-Oct-08 10:20:15

bobbie is right - tie a silk scarf onto the handle.
you can change it any time you feel like it
is WAY WAY (sorry!), then corsage or beads and blingy things.

scarf would even be <gasp> cool. or trendy. or whatever the sodding word is these days.

squeaver Thu 09-Oct-08 10:24:02

Just use it for evening with funky clothes that don't need anything else.

And WALK AWAY from the corsage.

Cappuccino Thu 09-Oct-08 10:24:36

god really wow

because my first thought was scarf but thought would look weird

<congratulates self on fashion instincts>

MadBadandDangerousToKnow Thu 09-Oct-08 11:05:35

So are silk scarves tied to bag straps 'on trend'?

<<remembers this one from last time round>>

<<unbelievably ancient>>

Bobbiewickham Thu 09-Oct-08 11:14:12

Yeah, get a purple one.

Knock 'em dead, capp.
