grey hair getting worse... hair dye dilemmas

hi have been having a dark semi-permanent colour to cover a few bits of grey. but I am now getting more and more grey and the colour washes out too soon. my hairdresser says a permanent colour will just make it look worse when it grows out.

I don't want to reveal a new grey look just yet (most people think I am about 10 years younger than I am). what do you all do?

should I go blonde?

A paler colour will be more flattering, blending with the grey.

SO instead of dark chocolate brown for eg, try going up a few shades, ask your hairdresser to slice through with shades of caramel and butterscotch. You should find that the regrowth, will not be so obvious.

I totally get not wanting to embrace your inner grey

don't know the solution I'm afraid - I'm in the same boat unfortunately. I'm currently using the semi-perms, but I was blonde for over a year, and gave it up cos it was too expensive for me.

Will watch the other response with interest...........

I have a nice hairdresser who is very understanding.

I went gradually lighter for about a year but it wasn;t me - we needed to find a way to cope with the greys.

Now I have a dark colour put on (virtually my old natural colour) and then she puts kind of hihglights in using a very light colour so I have kind of blondy bits woven in - it doesn't look grey - it still looks dark, but the grey grows throuh and belnds more with the blonder bits IYSWIM

i put some root touchup through the really obvious bits. works a treat especially round hairline.

I've been going grey since I was 19 (now 35). I've always hated it, especially when darling family point it out - as if you're not aware yourself!! I have tried a few times to colour it but without success. I have very fine straight hair so any regrowth is glaringly obvious. I have decided the best way is to do nothing, that way there will never be a dramatic change and hopefully I won't get as many comments?!

I have the same problem (even with permament colour!) and find it almost impossible to get to the hairdresser regularly - I have tried doing it myself a couple of times but last time ended up with orange roots. Anyone know how to avoid that?
