Would you ever se straighteners on a 7yo?

Cos my DTDs complain about their curls & waves.

I kind friend (of mine ) told them that they should "get mummy to straighten it"

I was horrified at teh suggestion of using straighteners on a 7yo personally.

maybe I am over-reaction though?

For a party/wedding where I want her hair to look lovely and shiny [vain]

My SIL uses them on her 6 yr old dd for sopecial ocassions.

I remember havimg my hair crimped as a kid for special ocassions - same kind of think I guess.

I have done on my dd1's hair. But only very occasionally (about three or four times in the last 18 months) for parties and suchlike. She knows it's not good for her hair, but once in a blue moon isn't going to kill her. (I have been known to give her Fruit Shoots too, though, so I may just be a bad role model!)

I just worry that teh occassional wedding would become every birthday party would become every weeek.

My Ds is 8 and I sometimes do his hair as it is quite long. He loves a good pampering, I don't think its weird at all, as long as its not every day, just as a treat.

Would agree with MamaG - have used straightners/curlers on daughters hair for special events and she loves it.

My mum used to spend hours plaiting my hair into teeny plaits to get crimp effect

For an ocasional thing, yes but imo not a good idea for very day. Will surely knack their hair??

Thing is, my DD's hair is naturally more or less straight and she doesn't really care wehther I straighten it or not -

In OP's case, I would hesitate to use tehm TBH as it might turn into an everyday thing which I wouldn't approve of

I would only ever use them for special occasions but not regularly!

I think curls and waves are lovely.



Mind you I have v straight hair and my mum sometimes curled my hair under with tongs. But only a few times. When I was a bridesmaid for my cousin at 12.

I used them on my dd when she was three, but only because she begged to try them to copy me. Her hair is poker straight anyway and she never asked again. I suppose if they liked the effect they might be begging every morning which would be awful pain. Agree curls and waves and beautiful.

but for parties like the others have said and always use a heat protection spray and tend to only do the ends where the curls are

I have used them a handful of times on my 6yo for special occassions when her bob wanted to flick out one side lol

My friend uses them EVERY DAY on her 2 year old. I was when I found that out. I think sometimes is ok but I'd make as much as a palava out of it as possible so that dd prefered me to just leave her alone [mean emoticon]

lady at school gates uses them most days on her 4 year old.

They want them doing for 2 reasons.

1. The curls get tangly easily and they think that "straight" hair will be easy to brush
2. Their hair ins't actually even. It can be in very tight ringlets at teh sides but only just wavey at the back.

As a compromise to saying I wouldn't straighten i have offered to rag it tonight for a party...even before your suggestion MamaG

At least if it goes horribly wrong I shall be able to get teh straighteners out tomorrow to repair - with teh MN seal of approval

hairdresser told me to use spray leave in conditioner , mousse and comb with a wide toothed comb. DD's hair looks so much bettermore even curls,iykwim.
Straightening is o.k once in a while but I think they all end up looking the same.

There is no way I would use them on DD1 or DSD5.
When they old enough to use them safely say when they are 12-13 and save up to buy them then they can.

Random Idiot How do you do their hair normally?

I will confess to using frizz ease on my 2 year old with curly hair as it makes it v easy to comb.

For max curls though boots curl cream on soaking wet hair comb it through and tousle it up - mass of ringlets!

If I put nothing on it I can't get a brush or comb through it.
