winter coats while pregnant

I am currently 16 weeks pregs and although weather is wet, not too cold, so haven't felt the need to wrap up warm yet.

Last time, I was pregs at the same time of year but only got to 29 weeks so managed to keep warm in woolly poncho's until December when the boys made an early arrival.

However, I will still be (hopefully) very pregnant over xmas/new year, so all of winter really - what does everyone else do to keep warm and dry without spending a small fortune on a winter coat they will only wear for a few months?

or try looking for styles (the a line one) that could last you when not pregnant ....

I wore a poncho last winter when I was pregnant with DD and it hid a multitude of sins. It was plenty warm enough especially when worn with thick jumper underneath ( not a maternity one- I told you it hid a multitude of sins!) Only problem not water proof! But on wet days I either used umbrella or a a rain coat I already had.

I wore my normal winter coat but not buttoned up - wore a chunky scarf as well so I didn't get cold

I did same as allnew, even though your bump is protruding, it doesn't get cold! Couldn't justify a maternity coat. That means I get to buy a really nice normal one this year

Thanks all - I have a bit of a 'thing' about buttoning up my coats! I hate wearing things undone (a dose of OCD I think!) - I have a lovely NEXT wool patchwork coat but its fitted and would not go round me - I am storing away til next winter.

I have seen this, not maternity, but a forgiving style and so far only a £1 on ebay! Scroll down to see her wearing it with her bump.

I went to Matalan and bought a coat in a size 20 (I was a 12 pre-bump) which buttoned nicely over the bump (DD was a Feb baby so I was huge over Crimbo and winter). It only cost about £20 and was actually very fashionable at the time (round collar, oversized buttons, pink/grey/black tweed pattern)! Didn't seem too baggy over norkage, either, so it did the trick in the cold weather. HTH

I got a lovely belted black mac from H&M which does great maternity clothes. It was really smart and very reasonably priced. I had my baby in March so was at my biggest during Nov-Mar and wore it all the time. The only thing was, it wasn't particularly thick so I wore a cardi underneath, but it looked really great. I didn't want to spend loads on a thick wool winter coat as I might never be heavily pregnant over the winter again so this did the job nicely.

I have just bought a lovely coat from Primark for £17. The style means it fits lovely over my 30wk bump and will last me the winter.

Hana - the eBay/Primark one is not the same I have bought, the one I have got is lined and thick so will be really cosy in the cold. It is a similar style though. I got it in Black, but they had it a lovely jade green and a dark grey.
