Let's have a round up of this season's possibilities.

I need one; I want one: I'm going to get one. But I am not liking the reports of Boden leakage; and I am not liking at all the Primark one.

I'll start off shall I?

this one only works in black

I quite like this in red but it is too short

parka duffel thingy but quite expensive

M&S seem to have lots of nicely designed parkas, but none of them (doh!) seem to be waterproof...

Are they mad?

QuintessentialShadow Wed 03-Sep-08 11:48:52

Why not go down the sports route?

sports jackets such as berghaus

And may I draw your attention to:

Park from Blacks

QuintessentialShadow Wed 03-Sep-08 11:49:12

PARKA from blacks, not park... hmm

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 12:13:58

Hi QS, thanks, but not so keen on the 'sports' look - just doesn't work with any of my work clothes <vain>

That parka looks OK actually but not sure if it is actually waterproof...

Ho hum, will keep searching.

Anyone else got any new ideas?

apparently (according to the Times) either Aigle or Barbour are the way to go here: does anybody like this: parka and this is cool but has no hood: utility jacket?

I have boring parka from North Face bought at Blacks.

Cardigan Bay's third biggest clothing company have some

traceybath Wed 03-Sep-08 13:29:02

i quite like this

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 13:47:27

actually tracy, I quite like that one but I'd have to shoot myself before buying a barbour... grin

hello helsy, shouldn't you be working? wink

JackieNo Wed 03-Sep-08 15:55:48

Both the Barbours are surprisingly OK, but shock at the price!

MinkyBorage Wed 03-Sep-08 16:00:17

love the HOwies one

cornsilk Wed 03-Sep-08 16:04:38

m and m sports are ace

brimfull Wed 03-Sep-08 16:05:55

a trench coat with a hood but not sure it's waterproof

actually I'm amazed at the number of trench coats that are not waterproof...aren't they meant to be worn in the rain ffs

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 16:13:09

God yes, those Aigle ones are just right but ohmigod at the price...

I suppose a good, well-fitting daily school run coat is an investment isn't it?

And <puts on hunters and sits on fold down flap of Landrover> I am actually liking the Barbour and Aigle quilted insert shock

brimfull Wed 03-Sep-08 16:13:12

this is good for work

PoorOldEnid Wed 03-Sep-08 16:15:13

the millets mac in a pac

in navy floral

brilliant

have worn from June onwards

lightweight and looks v nice

I think they only have the plain navy one on website

blithedance Wed 03-Sep-08 16:17:53

is this style suicide, being from Hawkshead. Must point out I am not a regular customer.

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 16:20:57

ACtually I think that Hawkshead one is OK styling and vv cheap.

I'm still swayed by the vv expensive but lovely Schoffel one (249 quid though! jeez)

brimfull Wed 03-Sep-08 16:21:36

american-looks so dull

brimfull Wed 03-Sep-08 16:22:56

enid-is it actually waterproof though

I alwasy end up soaked in my pac a jac from millets

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 16:27:39

We're on different wavelengths here: I need hoods (think school run with pushchair - no hands for brolly)

But I like the smarter trenchy versions for when I'm not pounding to school in the rain but gently ambling to work...

dexter73 Wed 03-Sep-08 16:28:18

I have a Barbour (only used for dog walking!!) and it is waterproof but has no hood and is quite short. Also being waxed it does smell a bit 'barbourish'!
When it is really wet I think style has to take a back seat to function.

brimfull Wed 03-Sep-08 16:29:49

have you tried the fleece lined one from boden,is that the one that leaks?

WilfSell Wed 03-Sep-08 16:31:52

Ah. I would never in a million years though wear an old-style Barbour in green with the cord collar though. That would be a step too far. My DH <class warrior> would have to leave home.

Sorry.

Yes, and can't be doing with any drips down back of neck or wet thigh action either...

Would it be bad to buy this?

It is waterproof corduroy [wtf?]... And I like it!
