I bought a little bra for 8 year-old dd

And she loves it! She begged me to buy it and she has worn it non-stop for 2 days! She even wanted to sleep in it!

Of course she is nowhere near being able to fill it, but it is just a little trainy type one from Gap.

At first I thought it was really sweet, but now it makes me feel a bit sad. She is going to need a real one soon enough...and then she will have to wear the damn thing for the rest of her life!

i wouldnt ever have done that to be honest, my dd at 9 3\4 actually needs one and has just got a couple.
Even then it's not a bra as such, more of a crop top style bra

OMG

OMG

OMG

Little girls don't need bras. Not even little trainer-type bras. Not even ones that aren't meant to be real bras.

Sorry, I don't want to be rude and that may not be what you posted for, but your post has made me very sad too. I have a seven year old, and I cannot imagine feeling the need to buy her in a bra when she's 8. They grow up too quickly as it is, without putting them into teenage gear before they are really ready for it

QOD Tue 02-Sep-08 19:02:18

yeah i get your omg custardo, think it's a wind up??

Twiglett Tue 02-Sep-08 19:02:59

If I had my judgemental head on I'd be saying "why the fark would you do that, it's not sweet at all it's rather ick actually"

lucky for you I don't wink grin

BoysAreLikeDogs Tue 02-Sep-08 19:03:15

Oh it's such a shame.

Really, no need to sexualise pre-adolescence at all.

Can you 'lose' it PDQ ?

LackaDAISYcal Tue 02-Sep-08 19:03:19

why?

am shock that you even get "bras" for children that small. Can we not let them be children for a little bit longer?

<wanders off muttering I blame high school musical and bratz>

QOD Tue 02-Sep-08 19:03:53

wig wam bam, my dd sadly needs one, and I have held back and held back but it's just all ummm very obvious, so she's got some.
Having said that, she's 4ft 7inches, 5stone (very tall & slim) size 3 feet and obviously maturing!

QOD Tue 02-Sep-08 19:04:46

hey lacka, I went to new look recently, they had PADDED HSM BRAS FOR 7 YEAR OLDS!!!!!!!!!!!! what the HELLLLLLLLL!!!!

Overmydeadbody Tue 02-Sep-08 19:05:07

That is very sad.

squeaver Tue 02-Sep-08 19:05:14

It's dreadful that you can get bras for that age. Sorry jj but I just would not have bought it. I'm a bit shocked actually.

WigWamBam Tue 02-Sep-08 19:05:20

Your daughter is nearly 10 though, QOD. Mine will probably need one by that age too, the way she is going.

But an 8 year old?

piratecat Tue 02-Sep-08 19:05:37

hmm

squeaver Tue 02-Sep-08 19:06:02

QOD - FFS!!

memoo Tue 02-Sep-08 19:06:39

:-(

misdee Tue 02-Sep-08 19:07:32

dd1 has asked if she needs a bra. i have said no for now, she is fine with crop tops.

memoo Tue 02-Sep-08 19:08:23

my DD is 91/2 and is starting to blossom but will not buy her a bra til she actually needs one.

LackaDAISYcal Tue 02-Sep-08 19:09:34

that is sad qod.

<vows to lock DD away from meedja influences till she's 38>

Dozymare Tue 02-Sep-08 19:09:54

I'm sorry, but WHY would you buy a bra for your 8 year old daughter if she doesn't even need one? I am very very shocked at your comments and find it very sad indeed.

Please, take it away and BURN grin especially as you say it makes you feel sad now. That is because it is sad.

TequilaMockinBird Tue 02-Sep-08 19:10:51

I was in New Look today looking for a bikini for DD (10) in their sale.

I couldnt get a normal one without padded cups!! shock Had to get a tankini instead.

Jux Tue 02-Sep-08 19:14:58

I got my dd a couple of those bras from Woolworth's which are actually short vests - because she was the only girl in her class wearing vests and it embarrassed her when changing for PE. Are those the things you're talking about?

joliejolie Tue 02-Sep-08 19:18:37

Um, okay....

I really just bought it as an alternative to vest tops for when the weather is warm and she needs to undress for PE.

I did not seriously buy it to force her to grow up and she does still wear age appropriate clothing. Saying it is "sick" is a bit sick IMO. Why is a bra sexualising anything??!! If I had got a black lacy, padded La Senza number, then yes maybe.

Come on now people...

joliejolie Tue 02-Sep-08 19:19:20

Yes jux, it is like a short vest.
We crossed posts.

Here

Gosh, I am a bit disturbed by some of your reactions!!
