Stylish ladies, help me! I have no style!

None!

I'm 5"8, normally a 10-12 but currently nearly 12 stone. Feel ugly, unstylish and frumpy.

My style pre-children would have been skinny top, push-up bra, big flares and heels, 3/4 length fitted jacket. I am now more muffin top than skinny top, and I can't get my flares over my mahoosive thighs and my fitted jacket no longer fits over my breastfeeding bust

And I've totally given up on my unruly hair. I think I'm beyond help on that score.

I'm off to the shops tomorrow in a quest for a brand new casual wardrobe. I have no clue. Please be brutal. Please be honest. What would you do to me?

I think you have nice legs and thighs actually, you would look great in a really snug pair of jeans

Report
brimfull · 30/08/2008 20:32

or a skirt and top from white stuff

you have a lovely figure

Aw you look LOVELY!!!

Very pretty and lovely strawberry blonde hair.

If I were you, I would tie up my hair maybe. That adds instant 'uplift' and makes you feel tidy and contained.

Your jeans look great. You have nice shaped legs even if you are as you say, more than your usual weight - still a nice shape

I'm not sure what else to suggest - you look fine to me!

i think your shape is alot like mine, wider in the middle slowly when used to be really slim there.

i'm tempted to get a girdle

southeastastra · 30/08/2008 20:41

i find high(ish) waisted trousers are really flattering, but don't tuck the top in, they pull you and you can layer long tops over them

eviz your hair style is a little like mine. I have a natural wave but found it more unruly if I had layers cut in it.

What I have to do to control my hair is get it trimmed at least every 5-6 weeks. I am a bit nervous of hairdressers but have a lovely mobile hairdresser now and I trust her.

Your figure looks fine to me.

You have a lovely figure, very long slim arms and legs.
I would get some smart dark bootcut jeans to start and some pretty but loose cut tops, perhaps empire line style. Easy to feed in and more flattering to post baby figure than fitted tops.
I have a similar figure to you and find that loose rather than fitted tops are more flattering generally, not just post baby. Skirts are also good if you have good legs as you do.
You have a 2 month old so be kind to yourself and don't expect too much, with DS2 I am still not back to pre-pregnancy size after 15 months but am not too bothered, it will happen in time.
But I do think its worth getting a decent hiarcut, you have nice thick hair, am sure a really good cut would make you feel better and woudl be easier to look after.

Just re-read my post, I was responding to your quote about your "unruly hair" not making a judgment btw. I wasn't suggesting in any way that you need to control your hair.

I am slim but have a slightly noticeable muffin also
Recommend esbelt when need flat tummy
But think you are enviable pretty and you do not look 12stone
I think vest top with fitted funky cardy flatters good bust and bit of belly
And well cut jeans and slight heel
And perhaps a new bra to make most of your fab boobies

traceybath · 30/08/2008 20:47

For 2 months post-baby you look fab.

I'm 8 months on and still breastfeeding which does influence what i wear a lot.

I'm shorter than you but my 'uniform' tends to be dark slim fitting jeans, vest top and long cardigan.

have this but in oatmeal which would look lovely on you

Also get some cool necklaces just to lift your look a bit and a nice handbag.

Oh i also like this a lot nice and drapey

I wasn't expecting that response

I feel like one of those women from what not to wear. Feel all out of proportion.

Flightattendent I leave my hair loose because I think it disguises the fact that my jawline has merged into my neck

ggirl - that website has some gorgeous clothes. Could definitely see myself in some of that! Is the stuff as good quality as it looks?

Love the idea of knee length skirt - but lost as to what footwear to wear with it. Size 8 feet so pumps look daft.

iCod thanks for your comments - my fave colour is pale blue - is that any good for my colouring? I have no clue

And are flares still ok at 33?

How weird - you look a lot like me (but thinner and prettier and younger )

I agree with pannacotta - boot cut jeans and empire line is great while you've still got your baby tum. Once it goes down a bit, buy yourself a big wide belt to cinch in all those empire line tops

As for the hair, I now either use half a ton of frizzease (only I buy the cheapo one from wilkinsons which is just as good) or hair straiteners. And a good hair cut with tons of layering works wonders in terms of avoiding the crystal tips and alistair look (not that yours looks like that but mine does)

My figure used to be just like yours. Er, before DSs2 and 3. Ho hum.

Yes, ditch the pink. Lots of layers in your lovely thick hair.

I'd suggest an Anita underwired BF bra: marvellous - the boobs look almost normal!

I'd suggest some straight leg dark jeans and a lovely printed cotton top, not quite smockish but a bit nipped in under the boobs and flaring a bit. What size is your top half currently? About a 12-14? Summat fabulous from French Connection or Karen Millen if you're doing high street?

Jewelsandgems · 30/08/2008 20:50

Agree that empire line would be flattering for you (it is for me too) and if you need a bit of boob accessability, this is nice, is very soft and looks nice too (I have this in white and brown)

the white company top and also we get a mumsnet discount so even better!

Great tip from traceybath re the necklaces. You can get loads of lovely ones, reasonably priced. My mum often gets me them as stocking fillers.

It's tempting if you have little ones to reach for sensible, practical t-shirts etc. I have loads of long and short sleeved t-shirts. I also have a few necklaces, it makes it look like I have made an effort. Scoop necked or similar with a necklace with my body shape.

Onepieceoflollipop I welcome your comments! I had my hair cut three weeks ago. It looks exactly the same - just a slightly shorter version of unruly. I should buy shares in Frizz-Ease.

I am trying to grow out my layers - they give me what I call my 'poodle ears' - even with stacks of product.

Just worried if I go much shorter it'll stick out horizontally.

Used to have it short, but felt like a man..

Off to check out traceybaths suggestions now..

eviz look in H&M for empire tops, also Great Plains (in dept stores and on line).
Oasis also has drapey tops as do Principles/Monsoon.
Will see if I can find some links.
Tried some nice bootuct jeans in Gap recently - the Curve bootcut, worth a try.
And why not pin your hair up as FLight suggestsand try some pretty earrings too, woudl flatter your face shape.
You look great, totally in proportion, just think fitted tops not the best choice for post baby wear...

Several tops on this page which would look good on your figure and be good for b-feeding

Hey you are the same size and shape (except you have bigger boobs [jealous emoticon]) as me.

I think you look great and just need a new outfit, a haircut, pedicure or manicure to help you feel better about how you look.

I went on Channel 4 Goks fashion fix to find out what types and shaoes if clothes would best suit me.

Now I am trawling through websites like fatface, Laredoute, Boden, MandS, our local boutiques looking for some of the things suggested.

My hair will just have to wait. But i know a good outfit will help.
