swimming with a pair of shorts on over their costumes, would you think:

a) nothing of it?
b) how odd!
c) what's she hiding?
d) I would wear that too if I was that fat?
e) bet she needs a wax!
f) do I have a bottle of wine in the fridge or should I get one on the way home?

nothing. i am a fatty so would also be wearing shorts.

If i culd get away with it i would also be wearing a long armed sweater, some trousers and a pair of shoes!

g) I bet she's had that costume so long the arse has gone see through and
h) Now everyone is staring at her arse
i) She forgot to take off her shorts when getting changed? Perhaps she has her trainers on too

It would look odd. I'd be intrigued - why would someone do this?

posieflump · 27/08/2008 14:00

g) good on her for wearing what the hell she likes

PosyFossil · 27/08/2008 14:04

TBH I would think "what's she hiding?"

I always judge people at the pool - it's so boring otherwise

i have a speedo swimsuit which has sort of cycling shorts on the bottom...solves the problem!

hmmmmmm. Thing is, I have a problem: I am very, very shy of swimming and bearing my bod but I feel that I am denying my nearly 4 year old son the chance to get into the water because of my insecurities. Just not fair on him.

Aside from being FAT (and Mamazon, your reply was lovely!! LOL) I also have scars from ingrown hairs from waxing all the time which I have to do. Also, I have to wait at least 6 weeks for my skin to heal after waxing before I can get it done again. I HATE HATE HATE the tops of my legs for those reasons. (BTW: any idea what lazer treatment would cost?)

But I am going to have to be really bold and brave and just bear all (with swim shorts) so that my son can swim too. (His dad would take him but tends to leave it up to me to organise most things).

Thanks so much for the replies. So next time you see a near a swimming pool with shorts on............. wave hello!

I use Allen's a lot for DS's swimming kit, and they're very good - very quick on the whole. ANd you get a discount if you spend over £30, I think it is.

we all went swimming on Monday and most people in the pool were fat (excluding moi obviously )

nobody gives a crap imo

some people leave their towels near the benches so when they get out they can get covered straight away, is this a possibility?

Sorry about the see through arse

It has just occured to me that as so many women have issues about baring their bodies at the pool [feminist rant about the meeja deleted], why is it that men's swimwear is now akin to a pair of clam diggers, instead of the hideous point-and-laugh Speedo of yore?

fwiw, once in the water no one can see, and from mn alone you could gather that ther are far more women concerned about their own arses than judging anyone else's

You could walk to the pool with your towel wrapped around you and slip quickly into the water.

And can you find an alternative to waxing?

Like I said in my first post - you would attract my attention for wearing shorts, not for the size of you bum or anything else.

wear a swimming hat like this and no one will look at your bum!

yes, olive, it really is just a case of from poolside to inside pool.
Pussinjimmys, i have not seen anything like that before!
Despite my bravado online, i know come SAturday morning I will need to give myself a kick up the arse to get myself out the house and into the pool
Ridiculous thing is that every time I have been, I have loved it.

honestly, just get changed and walk to the pool

if you scurry about you will feel shit

head up, walk in, enjoy your swim
