DH is complaining bitterly about my granny knickers - recommendations for cute ones please

I have lost some weight and have to replace my pants because they were literally falling off me. As an interim measure I ordered some from M&S which didn't look too huge on the model but when I tried them on came up to my navel. They're a bit too baggy as well (even though they're a size 16 and the ones I threw out were a 20).

Anyway, DH is not impressed by them and I need to buy some better ones. I have narrow hips and a relatively small flat bum but I have a big saggy tummy So teeny pants would look ridiculous.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find me comfortable cotton pants with adequate tummy coverage that look sexy (or at least don't look like granny pants).

As a subsidiary (and not terribly serious question) I have been with DH for over 20 years and I've never matched my pants to my bra in all that time. Recently he asked why I don't wear matching pants for my bras (I have some gorgeous bras). Is a sudden awareness of the need to match a sign that he has been having an affair or just that he's been reading the glossy sections of the Sunday Times?

Sounds like he's wanting to revel in your "new" figure to me!

I like this sort of thing for slight tummy coverage.
I tend to buy them in plain black or plain white, so they "go" with various bras. Mine are the Body range rather than Per Una.

You need some control thongs, by the sound of it

I suppose it is Cod, but really is it any odder a question than most on MN? It's seemed like a perfectly ordinary clothing question when I asked it. Is it a little too personal perhaps?

I've been wearing the same style of pants for years so don't really have any idea of what else is out there that would suit me. DH can't be at all clear about what he would like me to wear because he's a bloke, and anyway he doesn't have any idea about underwear needing to look good under clothes. He just knows he doesn't like the current pants.

Nooooo to thongs, I really can't be doing with uncomforable underwear.

i think the cod meant odd ? re non matching ......

i buy black and neutral lovely expensive bras, one or two truly matching pants for each and then plain black and neutral pants from m and s which "go" with them.... current faves are light control lace trimmed midi pants..... (cant do link, sorry)

maybe cod meant your dh's question was odd. IME men are a bit rubbish at women's underwear. My dh is a bit caveman and thinks all women should wear red and black lace basques and stockings under their jeans and teeshirts! I'm working on him needless to say!

I think Janeite had it right, shorts can be sexy and can hide/flatter your tum. esp if you've got good legs. I have chunky thighs so they make me look chunkier. I don't think underwear has to always match per se, but I usually try and get similar colours, ie white bra with with pants and so on. Bravissimo is my second home at the moment because I'm replacing all my nasty maternity and bf bras. Worth checking out, or figleaves.

I agree with Cod. Does seem a bit strange to be complaining about them after all this time.

I don't think DH has ever commented on my underwear - have no idea if he notices it or not.

I have a thread asking for similar though - comfy flattering cotton pants.

For me.

Do you walk around in your underwear? When does he notice it's not matching???

oops sorry, x post.

It might not be that odd cod (strangely pleasing rhyme that ) it could just be that after losing so much weight he's starting to see her differently. Or it could have just occured.

oh cod you are too world weary

go rub some deep heat into your shoulder

bran if you have nice bras it's perfectly reasonable for your dh to ask about pants, esp if you are buying new ones

honestly cod

I think he is just wanting to heat things up - nothing wrong with that in my opinion. I'm sure he will think you will look good in anything - but the granny pants.

[waiting too...]

Have trawled through figleaves to no avail.

Is everyone wearing plain white granny OR scratchy nylon [shudders]?

BBBee · 24/08/2008 15:36

high cut / high waist ones give stomach coverage without looking grann-ish.

matching - er - buy everything black.

I live in the tropics - I have to wear cotton undies, but I go for bright colours. I do have some special ones that I drag out just for dh iykwim. I think its sweet that he has mentioned it and he must love your new body shape

BBBee I have those ones in white...

controlfreakyagain sorry but they look grannyish and not v. comfy to me.

But if you've tried them I'll take your word for it.

Report
bran · 24/08/2008 15:49

BBBee, I already have some of those and while they aren't the granny ones that caused the complaint they are still "not great" according to DH. They are comfy though.

I do quite like Janite's link, and I was also wondering if Brazilian pants would be something to try.

The matching pants comment was when I was asking him if he like my new bra (scroll down to Theresa and it's the red bra), so it wasn't entirely out of context. That was a while ago, the criticism of style of pants is a bit more recent. I suppose he figures as I'm buying loads of new ones anyway he might as well make his preference known.
