D'you reckon they'd suit someone a teensy bit "apple" shaped?

(not me you understand, oh no, it's for a friend.....)

fishie Tue 12-Aug-08 21:47:59

empire for apples. wrap for pears.

LackaDAISYcal Tue 12-Aug-08 21:49:05

doesn't empire on an apple just make you look even more...well...appley?

cadelaide Tue 12-Aug-08 21:50:32

Well that's exactly what I thought, but i keep hearing otherwise.

I don't think I'll get one,I'm she's old and wise enough to know better.

cadelaide Tue 12-Aug-08 21:50:52

sorry, that was to fishie

fishie Tue 12-Aug-08 21:52:06

you'd think so but it looks great so long as fits properly. i have actual ribs just under bosom whereas tum is [ahem] less defined. (bouncy castle)

cadelaide Tue 12-Aug-08 21:52:09

Empire works for me Daisy (ok, ok, it's me, I'm the apple)

fishie Tue 12-Aug-08 21:52:57

that to lackadaisycal oh we are doomed to xpost here.

ForeverOptimistic Tue 12-Aug-08 21:54:23

When I was a slim apple they looked great, I always received positive comments.

I disagree with apples wearing empire line dresses they always made me look pregnant even when I had a flat tum.

DillyTanty Tue 12-Aug-08 21:56:45

a well-made wrap on an apple is fine, dunno about boden but dvf is great at positioning pattern. cheap wraps look shite on everyong and empire line is imo ghastly on a neat apple.

poppy34 Tue 12-Aug-08 21:58:04

wouldnt say boden was a cheap wrap but definitely not as forgiving as dvf

BBBee Tue 12-Aug-08 21:58:07

am peasr and only wear wrap dresses

that is not much help really. oh well.

objectivity Tue 12-Aug-08 21:58:47

I posted almost the same question - freaky.

LackaDAISYcal Tue 12-Aug-08 21:58:52

thanks fishie. I've never tried fact shy away from frocks altogether, but I need to do something about my dress sense/style as my big 40 is fast approaching.

cadelaide Tue 12-Aug-08 21:59:50

I'm going to have to try it aren't I?

DillyTanty Tue 12-Aug-08 22:00:48

link to it, let's see the pattern.

DillyTanty Tue 12-Aug-08 22:01:41

(and it being boden, faint clean away at the price and then direct you to ebay for a dvf). wink

Elmosgirl Tue 12-Aug-08 22:05:15

What's dvf?

susiecutiebananas Tue 12-Aug-08 22:06:04

I love the boden wrap dresses. I coudn't tell you if I were an apple or a pear really. All I know is I used to be a lovely slim size 12 with wonderful boobs. then I had dd and I've never got my self back

I used to wear any style of dress and look good. Why did I not appreciate it more at the time?

Sorry, I digress! Id say just order one & try it on. If you don't like the Boden returns policy is good. i.e. they let you! grin

oh, what is dvf? and why is it forgiving? I like the sound of anything that might be forgiving on my horrible body !
<clueless emoticon>

cadelaide Tue 12-Aug-08 22:06:54

Actually I don't have a particular one in mind Dilly, but I look at them every season and wonder.

You're right though, I should at least give dvf a try as well.

Off for a browse, back with links later.

RiojaLover75 Tue 12-Aug-08 22:08:21

What's DVF?

VanillaPumpkin Tue 12-Aug-08 22:10:07

I am an apple (size 12) and look bloody awful in wrap dresses. I am short waited too though which obv doesn't help. No belts for me!

DillyTanty Tue 12-Aug-08 22:10:33

not all of her dresses suit apples, imo, but this jeanne style suits me. quite high on the belting, collar, skirt not too long and three-quarter sleeves. (not that this is my size, but if it was i'd consider buying it).

traceybath Tue 12-Aug-08 22:10:51

Diane Von Fustenbury - the grand doyenne/creator or wrap dresses.

Try matches and netaporter.
