Really if you're going to wear shorts or go bare legged you should shave your legs...
It's the convention here. On the continent it's still normal for women to be allowed to be hairy. Men don't shave their legs but don't worry about showing them off (and their hairy backs, armpits blah blah blah).
I'm not actually much of a women's libber, and I do shave my legs if I remember, but not my armpits (there's not much there tbh). I'd like to not have to bother at all, but I feel very embarrassed if I have to strip off in hospital and I haven't shaved my legs, and always apologise. Nurses always say "oh everyone says sorry for that!". Perhaps we should take a stand and only shave our legs if our men do too!
