What might a man wear to a wedding if not suit and tie?

I rather unkindly told dh that I didn't want him to wear a suit and tie to an upcoming wedding as he would look like he was at work. Furthermore the shirt and tie look is really unflattering. I'm hoping to offer him some solutions but I haven't a clue!
He is 6 foot ish but has a beer belly and not much hair. A shirt and tie makes him look much more rotund than he actually is. Where can I look for inspiration?

It's the collar I think, it gives him a roll around the neck when he moves and is too harsh a line for his bald head. Any shirt has to tuck in under belly though surely! Oh dear poor dh...

DH - having never been a suity kind of bloke - got married in linen trousers, flowery shirt worn loose over the top and a linen jacket. He looked wonderful (but then I would think that).

Make sure you get him a properly-fitting shirt as well. He's probably still wearing the same collar size that he wore as a younger and slimmer man.

M&S Autograph suits are wonderful quality, really well cut. DH has one of their Timothy Everest ones, was £250 I think.

Then you could treat him to a well fitting, decent quality shirt from somewhere like Thomas pink or Paul Smith. I think the key is trying on until he gets something that fits really well, then he will look dreamy instead of rotund.

No wasn't matching linen suit, just a jacket and trousers that went (DH has a remarkable propensity to look like a schoolboy if you put him anywhere near a suit).

Might be worth - if time and money allow - looking at places like Paul Smith and Liberty, as they do smart but casual v well.

Thank you, will take a look. He ought to look good in one...he's got a lovely chisled jaw but we won't be able to afford that much. Can you hire posh suits or are they all of the sweaty wedding hire variety?

A good suit can cost anything from £400 to thousands. You may be able to get some better deals at more high street shops. But NOT Topman or Burton

CecilGee if you have one near maybe. DH got a beatuiful Boss suit from there this year. Red label - more fashion then business.
