A woman in my work is GREAT at it. She removed some buttons from a pair of pants (i don't know why you would have buttons on your pants either) , and transferred them to her jumper. Looked brilliant.

I often wear a scarf. Mixed reviews but I tell you what, it's great when you;re breastfeeding. Whip it off and use as cover up when feeding. Genius.

I'd say it isn't possible to "Gok" something full stop, even if you are a so-called "stylist". They look rubbish! And besides who on earth is going to be able to do that themselves at home? You'd need eyes in the back of your head, and three pairs of hands.

I've been encouraging DD to do it for years - just simple things like cutting off jeans, trimming with ribbon, adding studs/gems, etc. And she's only 11yo.

But my mum is a fab seamstress and so I've grown up with not just accepting as it is, iyswim.

Unfortunately good haberdashery is quite hard to find. Perhaps Gok's influence will lead to a resurgence (and accessibility to nice dressmaking fabrics please - most shops seem to have more craft fabrics than dress fabrics).

I reckon 4% of the population could gok, maximum. Other 96% will just look cack and the outfit will fall apart in teh wash.

Probably pd, because that sort of skill isn't a) taught in schools these days, b) handed down through families any longer. I'm talking practical skills as opposed to the stylist's eye, iyswim.

Yes, sue, we don't have those skills, you're right. Porty is right too - these skills would normally be used to fix or jazz up old items of clothing, not completely alter something that you have just paid a reasonable sum of money for.
