skincare routine - help/advice needed.

I think it's time I started a proper skin care routine - bloody 10 years younger programme grrrrrrrr

I currently cleanse my skin with a cream cleanser and muslin from The Sanctuary every morning but thats about it. I sometimes use No7 products. I quite like their protect and perfect serum but I find if I use it every day it makes my skin quite greesy.

I also have quite deep lines under my eyes.

So.......

Do I have to / need to cleanse, tone, moisturise twice a day?

Should I use a seperate day and night cream?

I don't really want to spend a fortune OR alot of time on this.

Is a facial cleansing wipe adequate in the evenings? Should I be doing a whole routine?

My skin can get quite oily, spotty if I start putting loads of products on, I think I need things which are quite light. I currently have quite clear skin.

Eye cream recommendations would be great too - if they get rid of the bags!

Thanks, please now bombard me with recommendations........

You need to cleanse twice day but forget the toner- see Toner thread yesterday. just wash off residual cleanser with warm water .

You should moisturise but with a product suitable for oily or combination skin.

I like Clinique Anti Gravity eye cream, but i AM over 50!!! However, without wanting to sound boastful, everyone thinks I am early 40s.

I like REN and Clinqiue products especially REN frankinsence night cream, but it is not cheap and I don't use it all the time.

I think No 7 stuff is good, but you need to use it regularly, like anything.

L'Oreal is also good.

If i could give you one tip only- it's stay out of the sun and use a daily sun block- i use Clinique City Block day in and day out under make up and have done for about 20 years!

Found it - interesting reading thanks!

So, now for moisturisers - different ones for day and night?

yes- but not really necessary if your skin is a bit oily.

Question- how old are you?

If you are in your 30s I think you can stick with any moisturiser at night- but if you have dry bits you might need something heavier.

I'm late 20's. Thought it best to start now as all my firends keep telling me it's down hill from 30 and that I'll start to sag!

Take no notice of your friends- you've got YEARS before you sag!

IMO a healthy lifestyle, such as no smoking/excess drinking, a healthy diet and keeping out of the sun is the best you can do- plus a little care with moisturiser.

Think thats my problem - occasional smoker / drinker.
Try and eat healthy most of the time but you know.......
Love the sunshine!

I'm doomed.......

you'll never have an english rose complexion if you smoke and like the sun

any one who watches 10 yrs younger can tell you that all their make overs either smoke or sun-worship.

yeah true but most of them chain smoke every day or spend their lives on sunbeds.

My skin sounds similar to yours and it improved hugely when I stopped cleansing twice a day and just rinsed with warmish water in the morning. I cleanse at night with a basic creamy cleanser (Olay at the mo) and remove it with damp cotton wool which gives a gentle exfoliating effect. Quick rinse and then a smallish amount of moisturizer - after seeing the Dispatches doc about these I've decided to stick with Simple Light Moisturizer! You may need something a little heavier in the winter. I put on Clinique Super City Block almost every morning too - the SPF in moisturizers disappears after a few hours, so I've been told. If you like the sun then it's really important that you protect your skin - it's massively ageing.

It's dull dull dull but lots of water does seem to plump up and smooth skin.

I sound like a beauty editor...
