I don't know if you are into home made efforts but I have started making a cup of Camomile tea, letting it cool and using that as toner. It's lovely too (not as lovely as Liz Earle stuff but cheaper!) You can also use a green tea bag as an anti-aging toner which I plan to try next

Water.

Toner is a gimmick.

i bet if you look at the ingredients listing, the first one is water/ aqua

it is a ploy to make you spend money to rinse off teh remnants of cleanser or whatever you have just used

something you put on your skin to tone it, to close pores etc can be COLD WATER. but then clinique/ number 7/ clarins etc could not charge you ÂŁÂŁÂŁ for an extra bottle of stuff you don;t need

water is fine.

but the idea of camomile tea sounds lovely, and cheap too!

What about Witch hazel? That's what I recall smelling in toners before......

Now I use Witch Hazel on my T-zone

Water. As cold as you can get it, and splash face repeatedly.

The camomile tea really does work, leaves my face feeling really soft too.

oops meant to add that you can add a blob of aloe vera gel too for a cooling effect.

Rosewater- if you must - get it from chemists or Boots do one with their skin stuff- Not No 7)- I think.

I use warm water on a couple of cotton pads and it gets all traces of make up off- it's a lot cheaper and just as effective.

Olay Daily Facials toner - absolutely fantastic, for years I have had spots and since I have used this, spots are no more (other than odd premenstrual one). Ran out recently and supermarket didn't have any so bought another brand, spots were back within days (gone now that I have got some more Olay). I think it has a fair amount of alcohol in, but doesn't seem to dry my face out, especially if I use it with Ultra Bland cleanser from Lush. Always though toner was a rip off too, but this really does seem to clear my spots up and is under ÂŁ5

thanks for all your input- water it is. I thought the experts recommended you cleansed toned and moisturised?

I use witch hazel on a small cotton wool pad

A bottle costs about ÂŁ2.50 from the chemist and lasts for ages

organic apple cider vinegar - test it first because it did sting a bit - but blimey it tightens up the skin and makes it glow. I have also read that it helps to close those largish pores that some of us suffer from - I will have to let you know in a couple of weeks though!

I agree that it's a waste of time but if you still want some then witch hazel or rosewater are as good as any expensive one you'll buy (if not better)
