Clothes suitable for living in a fairly strict muslim country. Anyone fancy helping me find things?

I'm quite excited as I think a hot country wardrobe with minimal flesh on show will suit me.

Very keen on ankle length swishy skirts but can't find many nice ones about. Must be light, cool fabrics, but obv not see through.

A bit stuck on tops as I would normally wear a vest with a maxi skirt. What would you do? Need something cool, but with sleeves, and bf access. I can't picture a shirt with a long floaty skirt. Help!

Am 5'4"
Currently size 14 (still carrying baby weight)
Large norks (F) while bfing

Which sites should I be exploring?

buttoned shirts with high-ish necked vests under
floaty kaftans/ tunics (get to shops now while beachwear is in the sales)

fface
white stuff
M&S
Next all have possible things in their summer collections but get a move on before it's all flannel trews and pullovers

if they are full, skirts can be heavier fabrics than you think as the swishing generates airflow, and they'll hang better too

some skirts here in the sale

would a normal t-shirt be inappropriate?

maybe get yourself a few basics n the UK and have a shopping spree once you get there. Much more fun and at least you'll find better choice in the right type of clothes instead of trawling the shops now desperately looking for something that ticks all the boxes.

will it be hot where and when you're going?

Where are you going? Let me know as I've been to most of them so will be able to advise. Lots of variation between countries.

You'll need loose shirts or tops really, nothing figure hugging or with too much emphasis on your norks

But it really does depend on the country...so where are you off to?

and are you moving there or just going on holiday?

Coz if you are moving there you'll only need long suitable stuff when out in public, if you're going to ther people's houses the men and women are usually segregated so you can be more relaxed about what you wear.

But it really does depend on the country, so where are you going?

Am racking my brains for fairly strict muslim countries.

If the women wear abayas there then just get yourself one of those and wear what you like under it!

Monsoon. Look for tunic type tops. Depending on where it is get Shalwar Kameez made when you get there.

she won't need a shalwar kamees if she's going to an arab country.

Arf. I appologise unreservedly. I was feeding my children. I promise never to let them inconvenience my mumsnetting ever again .

Dubai.

Not quite Saudi, but I still wouldn't go out in shorts and a vest.

Oh, and to live, not a holiday.

Previously lived in Iraq so have an idea, but that was a while ago and I suspect Basra was a bit more conservative than Dubai. Would personally prefer to err on the side of conservative though.

And seeing as there are people who Know Things on this thread - what about my 2-year-old? Can she wear anything?

Have you tried some of the asian clothes shops online - like Rupalionline, some nice tunic type tops. Well I like them!
