Bleached hair probs

So I’ve always had dark hair. Then the greys started coming through and the upkeep became so hard.
My plan was to go a lot lighter which would help the struggle.
So I gradually went lighter prior to lockdown. Really slowly.
Over lockdown my hairdresser left and now my friend (a hairdresser) has been colouring my hair. It’s gone v light which I wanted. But it keeps going a shade of orange. It’s not the natural colour I wanted. I feel it looks a bit 90’s! And dry! I’d always had such amazingly good condition.

It’s so awkward because my friend has been doing it. She doesn’t use two colours, it’s a blanket colour. I’ve said what I want but she chooses the colour and has always mixed it prior to me getting there (or is mixing as I arrive).

Can I use a box colour and go a light brown? Or will it go horrid?

I’m so nervous as to what to do. I just hate it at the mo and feel quite self conscious

Can you tell your friend that your thinking you want to go lighter and don't like the tone so she can change it and explain it goes a colour you don't like? Is she using a toner?
If you want to go brown you'll need a red based colour to put ontop of the blonde first then apply the brown. If you apply a brown straight to light blonde hair you do run the risk of it maybe going greenish or a muddy colour. If your wanting to keep the blonde have you tried a purple or blue shampoo they take out brassiness too just apply as you need it. As for dry hair use a mask 1-2 times a week, coconut oil if you have it or try olaplex.

Thanks so much.

I’ve mentioned it to my friend and I know she’s doing what she can. I think maybe I’m just generally underwhelmed.
I use a purple shampoo and am so pleased for the first 3 or so weeks. But then the colour deteriorates from then.

I’ll get a mask tomorrow. Thanks so much. Is the coconut oil the cooking variety?!

Well that's normal...you often need a toner every 2-6 weeks depending on your hair. What you need to do is a weekly deep condition, use less heat etc.

Evo fabuloso are very good and come in a variety of colors but I do find them a bit drying so mix with an ordinary conditioner.
I use mine once a week.

I wouldn't use a box colour, you need to treat your hair really carefully now so stick with the experts for any radical changes.

I think the solution is only going to come from going to a salon for a consultation and using a new hairdresser.
My friend is a hairdresser and didn't seem to listen/thought she knew what I wanted/knew best. At the end of the day she's not providing the service you want.
If she's working from home or is mobile she will only be ordering a few colours too and will have limited products she uses for her clients. She will also be keeping her costs low and unless you pay£££ she won't be ordering stuff just for you that she doesn't think she will use again.
How much do you pay for your hair?

I've been using an excellent ash blonde toner by treseme. It's just called ash blonde. It's a pump type bottle
