What age is Seasalt aimed at?

I went shopping for a coat today and the lady is my local boutique was trying to convince me that most school mums wear Seasalt coats and Seasalt is great for my needs (warm, stylish, waterproof).

She seemed abit put out when I mentioned I felt Seasalt were too old for me and I felt their target market is late 40s plus.

What age would you say Seasalt is aimed at?

I would say 40+? But then a lot of mums at our school probably are 40+!

Having said that, I have a sea salt coat I wear on the school run sometimes and it's amazing - still looks like new despite multiple wears/washes, is very waterproof and I think it is quite flattering. I do feel very "sensible" wearing it though Grin I was probably about 31/32 when I bought it.

Anyway why would you want to wear what most mums are wearing?

I am over 40, a mum, and do school runs. I have a Seasalt coat specially for the school runs in autumn/winter. It's long, warm, lightweight, looks exactly the same as when I got it years ago and keeps me dry when I have to wait in the playground during torrential rain, wind, snow etc.

But, does it matter what the target market of Seasalt is? Surely it only matters whether you like the actual coats they sell, and whether they are suitable for what you need one for?

30+ but who cares? Light and warm and deep pockets. What’s not to love!

I got a sea salt coat when I was early 30’s because of recommendations on here. Then found a school run grandmother in my daughter’s class had the same coat…my dh told me I was stupid, but I’ve put the coat away in storage until I’m at least 50. I’m only 38. It was a £150 coat too 😣

Did you like the coat? If you did then why does it matter who their target audience is? If you didn't, would it have made you like it more if it was aimed at your exact age group?

If you like something, buy it.

This.
Strangely, I only clicked onto this thread as my mom told me today she bought a new coat from Seasalt - she's 74. I would happily buy one too - I don't notice the make of other ppl's clothes - I certainly don't give a crap about what coats the school moms are wearing - it's a playground ffs!
why do ppl care so much about this sort of stuff - if you like an item of clothing and it suits you who cares what brand it is etc.

Why on earth would you do that? I don’t think she matters much for clothes nowadays just wear what you want and what suits you?! What a waste of 150 quid.

So what about jeans - say the granny was wearing similar jeans or the same t-shirt, I mean come on! Your DH is a dick. Bet he'd wear a herringbone jacket which you could tell him grandads wear.

I have a Seasalt. I don't like it, don't feel good in it but nevertheless there are a handful of days every winter when I'm very grateful to own it.
But none of that matters. The only thing you really need to know about me is my age, which is eleventy ten.

I’m 39 and wouldn’t wear SeaSalt but everyone has different taste regardless of age.

I am 64 and have an amazing Seasalt coat that is 100% waterproof. It’s great for
dog walking and I don’t care if it’s old fashioned. It keeps me warm and dry .

I’m only in my mid 20s and I shop in seasalt, as does my mum who’s in her early 50s. We have entirely different clothing tastes so honestly it doesn’t bother me. (Unlike when i had the horrific realisation at 14 that i was dressing exactly like her..)

I'm 37 and wear lots of stuff from Seasalt! That said, the last two collections haven't appealed - all a bit patterned and flouncy.

I’m late 40’s and I wouldn’t wear it. I imagine if you’re rural it’s ok for most ages but it’s not the kind of clothes I can imagine anyone I know wearing

Report
TuftyMarmoset · 08/10/2021 22:40

I think it's aimed at 40s onwards, but I think it's fine to wear the coats from a younger age than the stuff with prints. The coats are fine at any age really.
