She's 11. Last day of school yesteday we had an amazing day. Before she got in the shower she got my tweezers and took the end of her eye brow off. I can tell because there's a white patch where she hasn't tanned.
I've just noticed and she lied initially and now knows I'm v cross with her.

My eyebrows are destroyed by over plucking in my teens.

I'm scared of what she will do though she's been told the tweezers will not be out anymore.

Please give me some guidance how best to deal with this.

Oh she's 11, let her get on with it. She's probably trying to impress a silly boy at the end of y6.

I recommend that you try and chill out. Plucking once is not over plucking. They will grow back.

Think your over reacting massively. She's a kid, trying things out. She probably lied, because she was scared you'd be cross, which you are! Just laugh it off, and tell her she's doesn't need to bother with stuff like that yet, but if she's desperate, you'll show her how to do it properly. Please don't be too hard on her, she won't come to you about much more serious thing in the future, if you're reacting like this to something so minor.

She is obviously embarrassed. Rather than removing the tweezers, why not help her??? Maybe she was teased or wants them tidier. I'd teach her how to pluck one at a time, from the bottom only, rather than be getting very cross with her.

My 12 year old shaved a bit off hers a few months ago. I nearly died laughing she looked like a 90s boyband reject. She hasn't touched them since. Warn her of the consequences of over plucking and let her get on with it.

Seriously, you’re over thinking this one. Lack of regrowth is due to repeated tweezing.

Anyway, she’s not going to remain ‘perfect’ forever. There will be times where her lovely flawless natural beauty (that you grew, birthed and raised!) will be scarred, sometimes forever. But you have to learn to deal with that, because she’s a whole being with her whole life separate to you. The sooner you get your head around that the easier you’ll find her teen years.

I did all personal grooming in private as a teen as I knew my mum would react the same (and did). I know from previous threads I'm not the only person on here to take chunks off their legs by shaving with a bic blunt razor.

Let her pluck her eyebrows if she wants.

Well it's hardly the end of the world. She won't come to you with anything if you have a go. You need to show her how to do it and explain that everyone has to learn.

Please don't act like this. Why are you cross with her for deciding what to do with her own eyebrows? I hate threads like this as it reminds me how hard it was being a teen with an unsupportive mum who refused to let me grow up.

Oh get a grip woman! You’ve probably traumatised a child over a few eyebrow hairs ffs!!

My child somehow managed to razor a chunk out of her eyebrow with a lady shave at a similar age . It all grew back fine .
I also took a chunk out of my lip trying to shave my non existent moustache to be like my dad as a child . She clearly inherited my stupid !

Who didn’t do something like this aged 11? Help her colour in the gap and show her how to do it properly.

I'd be more worried that she felt she needed to lie tbh

She lied because she knew you wouldn't approve.

Report
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/07/2021 21:25

She lied because she knew you'd be cross with her and you probably made her feel stupid. Poor kid. She lied about doing something perfectly normal and harmless at that age to her own body. It's not like she lied about something serious.

I massively overplucked mine as a young kid in the late 90s. My mum got cross, hid the tweezers away and because I hated all the little stubby hairs coming through I kept finding them.

I wish she had sat me down, not been cross and instead tried to encourage me to grow them back, maybe helped with pencil until they did. They might have recovered very quickly if she had!

Instead where I kept messing around with them, they never properly recovered and I need to faff around every morning so they look decent.

If you overplucked yourself you should know this!

DD1 shaved off both eyebrows when she was 11 and we had to get an emergency hair appointment to cut a fringe in like Claudia Winkleman’s to hide it.
They grew back fine and we planned how to tame them after that to prevent a repeat.

Right of passage.
Show her how to do it properly and that more is more when it comes to eye brows. Just tidying them up.

So what if it doesn’t grow back! It’s an eyebrow and you said yourself that you only noticed because the skin underneath wasn’t tanned. It soon will be! Stop placing so much importance on your dd’s perfect appearance or you’ll give her issues, she hardly sounds disfigured for life!

I have a chunk missing from one of my eyebrows and couldn’t give less of a shit!

Help her, there's no reason to be 'cross'. Sounds like it was clearly a mistake and one that is very easily done at such a young age. Her eyebrows will be fine. Maybe go with her to get them threaded or something if she is trying to shape them and unsure of what to do.

It's fine. A one off won't do anything! If she plucked the same hair growth out over and over for years it might do some damage but not this. You seem very over-invested in your child's appearance OP.

Why are you cross with her? It’s her eyebrow.

Ours not only shaved her eyebrows off when she was about 7 but cut her eyelashes too. They all grew back. Really wouldn’t worry about it.

I’d feel the same. I plucked mine almost to a single thin line in the 1990s. Once. They never really grew back from the middles to the ends. Let her know that it can happen but try not to project too much (though I’d find it a challenge as I hate having to draw mine on every day).
