I've been using Cantu Leave In Conditioner for a while for my 4c hair but found its suddenly not working for me and my hair feels dry and unmanageable. What does everyone else use, or what can you recommend? I wear my hair natural and loose and occasionally braid it but not much else.

We have a mix of 4c, 3c and 2b hair in my house and Garnier Ultimate Blends banana works really well for all of us as a leave in conditioner. My husband's hair is 4c, he sometimes braids it and occasionally relaxes it when he wears it loose. The condition has been noticeably better since using Ultimate Blends. It also works very nicely to co-wash my daughter's hair when she decided to massage her dinner into it.

I found the same issue with Cantu and my son's hair recently (I heard they changed the formula following Cantu becoming very popular among women with European hair following the curly girl method - haven't been able to verify though).

I switched to As I Am leave-in instead and am much happier. (For actual washing I switched from Cantu to Shea Moisture, likewise happy. We use the hi-slip shampoo and the restorative conditioner as I actually felt his hair had become quite damaged by Cantu even though we'd used it happily for years til then.)

Continuous use of Cantu leave-in led to protein overload for me - dry and brittle hair.

I'd suggest a leave-in with glycerin and without any hydrolysed proteins for a little while. Have a look at the brand As I Am, they certainly have at least two moisturising leave-ins that are quite good.

Garnier Ultimate Blends - the coconut one if hair is really dry. It's 3 in 1 so is a conditioner or a mask or leave in as you wish.

This explains why it's been shite lately. Man we can't have anything nice. Thanks for the thread OP. I will try out keracare again

No its rubbish isn't it. Just when you find something that works they ruin it.

I really appreciate all the replies. I've ordered some of the brands recommended and see how I get on.

Camille Rose Coconut Water Style Setter as leave in. I have 4c hair and imo the best leave in ever. I make sure to never run out and fear the day she discontinues it.

Yes, the coconut water line is really working wonders on my DH (4c) and DS's (4b/a) hair.

We were delighted when we could finally get Cantu products in the supermarket but after a while it did zero for their hair. I actually did an experiment with my husbands hair. After he washed it, I used the Camille Rose coconut water leave in conditioner on one side, and Cantu leave in on the other. I then rubbed his entire head with jojoba oil (it's the oil I had nearby). The next morning, Camille Rose had definitely won! I bought loads more that night (from Asos).

I like the Cantu Avocado leave in. Much nicer than the original one, got it in a large Superdrug.
Or Noughty leave in is lovely and smells divine- Waitrose, Ocado and Boots stock it.

Thank you this has been so helpful for me.
DH is struggling with his hair (4c) and my son is a 3b, he is autistic and we can't cut his hair and I'm so worrying about looking after it. I've bought some camille rose to try. Thank you

Im a recent convert to flaxseed gel. If you put it into YouTube search there’s loads of videos about how to make it and use it as a wash and go. It’s literally made using just linseed and water and it’s brilliant for curl definition and de-frizzing. My sister in law has started making and using it after I recommended it and she loves it too. Her hair was so dry and brittle and just went into a frizz but she sent a pic of hers with the gel in as it was drying and I’ve never seen it look so good. I bought a 1kg bag of linseed off Amazon and they’ll last ages.
