Can you lovely ladies help me piece together a wench fancy dress costume?

Going to an adults only festival this summer and there is fancy dress. I want to go as a wench but in my previous experience, actual fancy dress costumes are dreadful quality (and the sizing is way off), no matter how good the pictures are! So I want to put one together myself, I just need some help in finding the right items of clothing, like a corset, blouse etc.

I'm a size 20-22 which makes it even harder to buy off the rack costumes 🙄

These are some I've found off Google that I like, but probably with a shorter skirt, I don't fancy traipsing round a field with a long skirt flapping around my ankles! Would be ever so much appreciated, thank you in advance!

I meant to add, it’s probably quite easy to make your own though.

I think it would be fairly easy to make your own; you could adapt this one

I've done this with a white blouse like the ebay one above and I had a black cotton top (which was actually a sleeveless gypsy top) as a bodice. Wore them with a floral skirt.

But when you say "adults only", are you looking for something more sexy?

Simply Be has a huge range of lingerie including corsets etc.

I adapted a waist coat I found in a charity shop. Cut the front into two curves to sit under each breast. Stitch into the curves the wires from an old under wired bra. Added ribbion to form the lacing. Worked pretty well and the fabric was strong enough to allow it to be firmly laced. The online costume ones are , imho, to "soft" to function as a corset.

Thanks all Smile

@Knittedfairies I can sew but not THAT well! I once made a dressing gown for my then-toddler and sewed one of the sleeves on inside out, three times in a row. I cried a lot that day.

The sewing can be pretty rough and ready, it's the starting garment that does all the "work" for you .

My fancy dress costumes look great, from a distance GrinGrin
