Bloody bras and armpit bulge

When I first bought these bras they were tight around the ribs but fit nicely on the cup except for the armpit bulge. The cup comes back towards my armpit so all the breast tissue is in it. I do the scoop thing but still I have bulge and I'm conscious of this now that it's coming up summer. I measure 29" around my ribs pulled nice and tight. My boobs aren't big. I'm wearing a 34D and it's a moulded push up. Looks great from the front. Rubbish if I move my arms from my side. One bra is more comfy than the other. They are now on the tightest setting but feel both too tight yet ride up a little. I've googled this to death but am none the wiser.

I'm a normal weight. BMI 24 I think and a short arse.

Your band number is your measurement. So you are definitely not a 34D if you measure 29". You're probably a 30. And then a bigger cup, that bulge is probably breast tissue (it can go a surprisingly long way back and to the side when squashed! And you can't scoop it into the cup, if there is no space for it!)

Try the boob or bust measurement system and get yourself to the bravissimo or Curvy Kate website to try a few styles.

(None of this applies to m&s bras by the way. Their measurement system is on another planet and was designed when bras didn't have stretch in the band like modern materials do)

At 29" you shouldn't be wearing a 34 back bra. The back riding up also suggests the back is too big. It should be snug in its loosest setting. What's your over bust measurement?

Or actually book into bravissimo for a fitting if they are doing them again and ask them to show you how to tell if a bra fits.

The band between the cups should sit FLAT on the skin, no gaping away from the chest. This is a key indicator that the cup size is too small. And the back should sit flat horizontal across the back, not being pulled up where you have tightened the straps. This would suggest the band is too big.

The straps shouldn't dig in or really carry any weight of the breasts, the band does 80% of the work.

And a large cup size does not equal massive boobs, it's simply a ratio between band and cup measurements, so a smaller back will often have a correspondingly large cup when fitted properly. For example, people are always amazed my cup size is F. Yes, I have boobs, but they are "neat" and not particularly in your face or top-heavy at all. I also have a small band size.

The first time I was measured properly, I went from wearing a 38d to wearing a 30G. I thought it couldn’t possibly be right, but there was no getting away from the fact that my boobs (and entire silhouette) looked a million times better. And I could reach up for a high shelf without them
popping out the bottom The band felt really tight, yes, but now I don’t notice, and as @PoTheDog notes, it should feel snug - the band is what’s meant to hold them in place.

Remember when you first got a bra and you noticed it all the time? And then you stopped feeling all the time “oh, I have a bra on!” It’s like that when you’re properly measured - you feel like you’re being squeezed all the time, but then you stop noticing. Well-fitted bras are so much more comfortable.

The smaller band won't do up if the cup size is too small. It'll feel like the band is too tight but it's more about not having enough cup space to accommodate your boobs.

You are wearing the wrong size. Cup too small, back at least four inches too big. Try Boob or Bust to get your correct measurement.

Go onto boob or bust and do your measurements .... I always thought I was a 32C ... I'm actually a 28F

I had fat in the 32C but now I'm in the 28F no fat and my boobs look better - granted I need a re-measure as I'm pregnant but boob or bust saved me! Lol

id try a 30F or a 32DD/E. You need a bigger cup size to get more breast tissue. Your bra is uncomfortable because you have the wrong ratio of band to cup

Nope, it's the opposite. The number always equals that number of inches.

But a D cup for a 30band is smaller than a D cup for a 36 band for example. You can see that when you look at bras in shops: go and have a look next time you are passing. The cup size increases as band size increases.

You would be surprised how few bras fit the models who wear them! Once you start to see it, you can't stop!

No, the band is the same but the cup size is different. If your cup size is too small the breast tissue can't fit in the cup and steals some inches from the back size and makes it feel too tight.

30" band is always a 30" band, it's the cup that varies, as others have said. Check boob robust site and get to a Bravissimo store for a measure up.
Saying that, sometimes your shape means some 'bulging' somewhere is inevitable. The problem is that bras are made to standard sizes/shapes, and like other clothing, we don't all fit the mannequin standard.
