Despair at maternity clothes on offer

I really didn't like the maternity clothes I wore during my first pregnancy so thought for this kind, I'm Gona buy a new set. Except for the fact it's all hideous! I've looked at next, ASOS, h and m, probably others...and it's just all crap.

Anyone else finding the same?!

I had my children decades ago and never bought any specific maternity clothes as they were all hideous so it’s sad that nothing has changed.

I just wore tops and dresses in larger sizes, the fashion at the time was for loose dresses that had a tie you tied behind your back so I was able to let the tie out gradually!

As for trousers and jeans I just threaded a piece of elastic through the button hole and hooked it over the button and wore them undone with a long loose top covering it.

Yep they're mostly hideous. I end up finding two or three pairs of jeans and 4 or 5 tops and just rotating them for months. I can not STAND the stupid slogan ones like "mama to be" or whatever. So stupid

YANBU. It’s all grey or navy (dull dull dull) or cheap, poor quality shite a la Boohoo. I LOVE Tilbea dresses and wish I’d known about them when I was pregnant. I mostly got away with non maternity smock type dresses or regular clothes in a size or two up. Maxi skirts and dresses are quite good.

I got some nice dresses from Jojo Maman Bebe & Frugi. They are BF friendly, too, so am still wearing them.

Oh completely agree, I was pregnant last year and trying to buy maternity gear around now and it was all crap. On the plus side it’s much easier being pregnant during the summer (at least when it comes to clothes - let’s ignore my due date being during a four day run of 35c+ heat ). I basically found a few non-maternity empire line maxi dresses and wore them all the time. Fat face were good for those.

I didn't have much specific maternity wear. I had a couple of Breton tops from Jo Jo Maman but mostly wore my own clothes with belly bands, and I've got twins so bump wasn't small. I couldn't get on with the awful over bump jeans / trousers.

It was a baking hot summer and I had several Primark maxi dresses that did the job and were comfy.

I use eBay a lot. Mostly wearing leggings, ballet pumps or converse and a dress or long cotton top with a denim or leather jacket.

Agree Seraphine can be priced on the higher side normally, but sales, outlet and eBay are good ways to pay a fair price for it.

I had a great pair of dungarees from jojo actually. Loved them and passed them on once I'd finished wearing them. Almost want another baby so I can wear similar again

I would also try non maternity stuff. There are loads of stretchy trousers about. I have some old, Hush harems, (I think quality has gone wrong lately though), and they would be fine as maternity wear in a bigger size imo.

I'd probably buy some maternity leggings and big smock tops to wear over them.

Asos maternity wear was awful when I had my dcs. So tatty and see through and crap. Sorry it hasn't changed since then!

I also had a nice dress from Seraphine, but I wouldn't have paid full price for it. It was not worth that sort of money imo.

Another option is Isabella Oliver. It’s more expensive also but there are often sales and once you know which size then eBay is an option

I mostly wore maternity jeggings (under bump) and regular T-shirt’s until about 7 months then had a couple of nice ones from gap. I don’t do slogans! I wasn’t keen to spend much money as you wear them for such a short time.

I do think some of things on swraphine are nice but I do agree the prices are a bit high although I would be willing to buy a few pieces from there.
Deffo Gona look for dungarees.

I had a few dresses from Isabella Oliver and Seraphine that lasted me for both pregnancies, as well as H&M tops (also good for breastfeeding) for basics. Frugi is good. Also, have you considered COS? I'm a fan generally of their (non-maternity) clothes - they're so boxy that I wore some dresses throughout pregnancy!

COS and Kin at JL do good oversized & boxy shapes. Another slightly cheaper brand is Monki. They would probably be on my list too.

I have no idea what it is about pregnant women that makes clothes designers think we want to be decked out in floral attire. It’s just all so twee.

I just bought oversized designs from Zara, most things I bought in my normal size and they lasted till I was due and I still wear some of it now. The only maternity items I bought were a denim skirt and a couple of slip style skirts and wore them with oversize shirts/jumpers.
