Can someone please tell me what looks good on my stupid body.

I’m sick to death of ill-fitting clothes and being scared to wear anything because of my body shape.

I’ve always hated my body, but more so now since having DD.

My already wide hips are even wider after DD.
I have 34G bust.
My thighs are big
My waist is small(ish, a lot smaller than the rest of me but)
I’m short, 5ft.
I’m not very toned, so I get self conscious of my back fat!

I’m not trying to critics myself as they’re facts, but I honestly have no idea how to dress for my shape?

I love seeing people looks so trendy and stylish, I’m 24 but I’ve never been able to look like the girls who wear hot pants and crop tops. I can’t wear bralettes or tops with bustiers or boning. I love them but they just won’t fit me in one area or another.

My wide hips and thighs are like a 12-14 but my waist is a 10-12.. maybe more of a 12 now thanks to lockdown. But no matter what I buy it’s always tighter in one area than another and just always looks half-arsed.

I’m so fed up. I’m self conscious, I just want to look good.

Where do I begin with clothes for a body like mine? 😫 pictures would be much appreciated (they don’t have to be of yourselves, just inspo!)

With summer coming, and me in desperate needs of wardrobe updating, I’m looking for a few wardrobe staples that will make me look good and feel good wearing.

I may upload a picture later of my body so you can see what I’m working with!

OK well first of all you most definitely do not have a "stupid body." FACT.

What size tops do you wear? Are you sure about the bra size? Have you checked it on boob or bust? Just checking as 34 sounds like it could be too big if your top half is a 10-12 (not sure as you mention waist) so you might need a smaller band and bigger cup size? Do you feel like your bras fit nicely or is there room for improvement on that front? I'm only asking because when I'm trying to sort my shit out I always have to start with the underwear!

I don't belong in style and beauty really so take this with a pinch of salt, but when I pictured your boobs and waist I thought some kind of wrap dress. Dunno if that's your style or if it's somehow a no-no and I didn't get the memo, so sorry if I'm way off the mark. There will be style gurus along soon to give expert advice Wink

Google wiggle dress. They are absolutely made for us curvaceous types. Haven't a clue whether they're in or naff or what, but they are lovely.

Perhaps not an every day staple, but a starting point for what works well with curves.

You sound like a boobilicious hourglass OP!

Sorry if that's rude but I think if you found the right clothes you would look stunning.

I agree with PP that you should measure yourself for a new bra, 34 sounds too large, I wear 32 and I'm a size 12.

Wow. With introduction you gave i was imaging you to be much bigger Hmm

This is a wonderful size to be - your not a teenager anymore, just because somd influencers dress like 15 yo doesn't mean the rest of us do.

Your problem very clearly is not your body, it's your body image.

So now we've got that out the way...

Emphasise your waist - you've got a gorgeous hourglass shape that most ppl will kill for: show it off.

Dress to emphasise height as well.

You realise most actresses are short right? You can rock curves at 5ft.

Belts are in atm, make the most of them. Browse the many fashionable sites mentioned here and build up a collection.

Like you, I have issues with clothes fitting one place and not another. That's standard for off the peg - they're designed around non existent body shapes and sizes. Received wisdom is to buy a size up and take it for tailoring.

You could also diy tailoring- loads of YouTube tutorials for it, practise on old clothes til you get the hang of it.

In the meantime, belts, safety pins, accessories are you friends. I'd probably choose to focus on earrings rather than necklaces. Bracelets would also draw attention downwards.

There are plenty of cheat sheets online about how to dress to minimise or emphasise body areas. Id suggest that you don't draw more attention to your chest - not for any negative reason at all, but because if you focus on drawing attention to your waist you'll emphasise your hour glass shape. If you feel a little 'unbalanced' this will even things out.

Make sure your clothes fit - don't keep wearing clothes or underwear that are too tight....believe me even if you wear clothes more than 1 size bigger than you're used to, you'll feel much slimmer for wearing those.

In terms of tone, well you know the answer to that :) recommend body weight exercises that way you don't have to go anywhere or buy any weights etc.

Honestly? Even when I'm back to my preferred dress size (a work in progress), I think I'd kill for a figure like yours.

I'm 5foot too and with a double d bust so not as endowed as you but not willowy either!

You sound like you have a curvy hourglass figure - def not stupid.

I'm careful of my skirt length - longer skirts emphasise my lack of height. I find skater skirts just above my knee or stright skirts in that length work well. I have chubby legs so tend to wear boots with them. I enjoy wearing plain tops with patterned skirts. I don't tend to wear low cut tops as I feel like i'm bursting out of them. I'm careful of blouses too as they can gape at my bust so wear pull on tops or blouses that close at the neck in the back.

I like 3/4 length trousers too with a layered top of maybe a tunic with a top underneath it. Knitted dresses with boots also work.

My advice would be to stop comparing yourself to others - they aren't you and have a different shape. Browse through pinterest and see what you like. Make a board with the ones you like and then go back and see if a style is emerging.

Don't hate your body, your body is fine. When the shops open just try in lots of clothes. I mean loads of clothes. In loads of different shops. Try in clothes you think are going to look awful, clothes you wouldn't dream of wearing. Eventually, you will find what suits you. I did this, and I really worked. You do have to be prepared to invest some time though.

You sound like me and I'm always being told I look nice .. hourglass is pretty easy to make look nice to be honest . What do you like ?

You sound like an hourglass,so of course you boobs and hips are a larger size than your waist. Some one mentioned above a wrap dress they work because the v neck is more flattering than a crew neck nd the tied waist emphasises the tiny waist. Skater dresses work for the same reason . If you don't want to show how wide(but only in comparison with your tiny waist) your hips are a fuller skirt worn with a tighter v necked top.

Thanks everyone - I don’t necessarily hate myself. I’ve just been scrolling through pages of clothes on every site not knowing what to try. Now I’ve calmed down and read some responses I think I definitely appreciate the shape I have, as I know hourglass is a... is wanted the right word? Or desired shape to some. I think it’s just trying to dress myself I have issues with. I’m either wearing too baggy and look bigger than I am, or too tight and all my lumps and bumps show! Blush

I think I’m going to order some different shapes and sizes of clothes and put them on Klarna.

Bra size- I hate the feeling of a tight band so I should probably be wearing a 32 instead of a 34.. perhaps I should give it another go and up the cup size (or do an online measurement and order what it tells me! Grin)

I’m just dying to look nice, I hate looking scruffy and feeling frumpy all the time.

Years ago I bought the book by Trinny and Susannah called What not to wear. Not being great with fashion, I found it quite enlightening. I still refer to it now sometimes. It costs about £2.50 nowadays, and deals with different body shapes.

411 results when I typed "wrap dress" into boohoo.com (versus 455 for "skinny jeans") 2098 on ASOS... so some young people must be wearing them!

I never really know what's on trend but I just think that style can look so lovely on the figure I'm picturing in my head (for example, the plus side models always look better in that style than the smaller models - not saying the op is plus size, just that the plus size models tend to have bigger boobs that look good) Just my opinion anyway. Like I said, I don't really belong in style and beauty Grin

My DD who is a similar shape and age shops in Bravissimo for bras and dresses. She looks lovely in them.

Oh my goodness I had no idea bravissimo even did dresses! Off for a good now!

I would like to start wearing more dressing in the summer. I love the look of t-shirt and button down midi dresses but naturally they don’t suit me as the buttons gape on my boobs😖

I’ve been living in jeans or leggings and baggy tops for much too long. Grin

If you're wearing a t-shirt you can leave the buttons on the dress undone to a bit lower down. The focus will be on your slim waist so you'll look slimmer all over.

It’s your fault if wrap dress makes you think Boden Grin

Boden is for the middle aged and elderly I think (as in, that’s their target market?)

With wrap dress or fir&flare I think you can find modern stuff, and also indeed Bravissimo (not sure that’s very young though?)

Sounds like you have a figure that’s not easy to dress, but when you get it right it’ll be cracking!

But yeah, stay away from Boden Wink

Just had a look on bravissimo, they have a nice summer dress.. and I am in absolute shock they do vests/cami’s with in built bras?!?!

I winced at £40 for a vest but oh my gosh I don’t think I’d ever take it off in summer!

I am 28 and a 30HH with slim waist and hips and can vouch for the Bravissimo vest tops, they are the dream and worth every penny. Order a few though as the soft cup ones fit very differently to the moulded cup ones and I am different sizes in each. Worth persevering to work out which fits you best.

I also wear many wrap dresses; they are the best fit and shape for an hour glass and NOT frumpy! I get mine from either Ted Baker or &Other Stories. More structured work dresses or skater dresses from Reiss.

The other look I like is skinny jeans (Gap or Levis for the best fit) with pumps or trainers and a fitted long sleeve T shirt (again Ted Baker) or a lose fit button up blouse from H&M tucked in with a statement belt.

In summer, I wear skater skirts or wrap skirts with Ted Baker fitted T shirts or the Bravissimo vests tucked in. Skirts are from Reiss, Oasis or &Other Stories. The Ted T shirts are a really reasonable price for the quality (often £29 in the sale) and look nice with bog standard jeans also.

Posting a pic would help

I’m 24 and a similar height, but a slim pear shape and can’t really pull off extra weight. It shows up quickly and my figure looks off. My waist disappears, I know what you mean about back fat! Even if you have a small waist, the back fat essentially negates it and covers it up, especially in motion!

I wear everything tbh. From gym wear and sweatshirts to blazers and dresses. I love my leather blazer. Shirt dresses are easy to throw on and cover your figure on casual days. Black flares are everywhere and also super flattering

Its really easy to measure your bra size at home, all you need is a measuring tape and if between inches go up a size (eg 35 inch, go for 35inch)

Also slightly tighter tops will look better because they show off your shape rather than wearing big baggy tops that hang down and just make you look generally wide all the way down. I am your shape and size
