Sweaty Betty sizes

Partner asked me to try on a pair of sweaty Betty leggings before he gave them to me at Christmas. They were a size small. I heard the sizes were ok. They are tiny! I can pull them up but they are tight and uncomfortable. I'm by no means huge. A size '11'...probably more leaning to a 12 these days but still got plenty of size 10 trousers that fit. Cute me feeling fat and awful 😔 and now he has to return them.

Felt disappointed as thought their clothes, considering the price too, were supposed to be for real women ..and it feels like Topshop have done a running line 🙄 well to me anyway.

Any opinions?

Confused
Women who are smaller than a 12 aren’t real? Last time I checked I was.

Did you measure yourself and see which size you matched up with?

I don’t think it’s uncommon that a 12 is a medium not a small.

From their site, a 12 is s medium. You just ordered the wrong size.

They are relatively small made. I’m a 8/10 and a size small. A 10/12 is a medium. Don’t worry about it!

Ps oh and I’m a real woman. That’s a bit rude of you.

No worries. They are great leggings so swap for a medium and enjoy wearing them! I love mine. I just got the reflective ones too!

I'm an "11" and medium fit well

I'm a 12 and always order M or L. I think a Small was a bit ambitious- to me a Small is 8-10.

They fit true to size for me but it's worth noting some of their leggings have more compression. Perhaps you tried on a higher compression pair hence them feeling tight and uncomfortable for you?

I personally love the extra compression!

If you’re ‘leaning to a 12’ then that’s a medium. You just got the wrong size. 10 is a S.

They are great leggings. As a similar size to you I wear a medium. They have a pull cord to tighten the waist. They are supposed to be tight and supportive though, worth trying both sizes and no point feeling upset, worth getting them right.

Thanks all. I just thought with being more expensive they would be on the more generous side like your M and S or Next (where I'm a size 10) rather than your Topshop type size (a 12 in that).

As for compression, I've ran for many years and never really considered it. Would rather trousers weren't too tight when I run.

I'm probably more upset about partner who's annoyed and saying things like "it's not my fault you're too fat for them".

Ahh @messy123, your DP was being HORRIBLE about it!

I have found more expensive, 'influencer' type brands to be less 'generous' with sizing. Size 10-12 generally is Medium, and honestly, that's nothing to feel bad about at all. That your DP is making you feel so horrible about it is the issue. That is disgraceful.

I agree, more expensive brands tend to vanity size less. High street brands targeted towards more middle aged and older women like Next and M&S are known for vanity sizing. In general I find upper end high street tend to be less generous and designer even less so.

Your partner sounds really mean.

And now we get to the actual problem. Your twat of a DP making those comments which are clearly making you feel so bad about yourself that not fitting a size small feels so devastating.

Get the size that fits you, whatever the label says, and get over to Relationships to deal with the real underlying issue Thanks

Wow, your dh sounds absolutely horrible. Flowers

Did you tell him how hurtful that sort of comment is? You’re not fat and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a size 12. Is he like this often?

I agree that this isn’t a label problem, this is a dh issue.

I'm a 10 (sometimes 12) and buy Medium from SB. Great leggings and worth the extra cost IMO

Also a 10 / 12 here and always go medium. I’ve bought large when that’s all that’s left in the sale, and apart from really having to hoik the waistband they have been fine too.

I don't rate them.
Each to their own.
