Help me avoid buying dd(12) a boring, practical, mumsy bag

DD needs a bag with secure pockets for her phone, travelcard, mask, house keys etc on her way to school. Her old one is falling apart and I’d like to get her a new one, but I’m having trouble finding anything that’s the right size (just enough room for phone plus key bits), has a nice wide strap (she hates the feel of thin ones under her heavy backpack) and doesn’t appeal to me as a sensible, middle-aged woman with no fashion sense.

I’ve looked at Zara, Fatface and ebay - any ideas where else to look? She’s not trendy, more on the happily geeky side, but I don’t want to get her something that’s way out of what any other tween would have.

Not what you've asked but I really would just ask her, or if she isn't sure go through the bag sections of some websites together and see what she likes the look of.

If she likes her current one maybe post a pic of that and some clever soul on here can find similar?

How about a Kipling bag in a plain colour?

I have a Kipling bag in a plain colour Grin So that sort of thing is out.

I definitely can show her some bags on websites, I just need to find some even vaguely suitable ones first...

All the teen girls I’ve seen seem to have large Hermès style/ bucket type bags with hard sides. Trying to find the words to describe them. I saw two teen boys carry four teen girls bag the other day like lap dogs on their backs. They bags wee all identical.

Sorry, that was to tinkiiev- do you have a link? It’s just the right size and strap.

Are they still wearing bum bagels across their chests these days?

They also have black ones and orange ones if she doesn't like the reflective. Although the reflective one would have the side benefit of being very road safety...

Can she not keep these items in the pouch of her backpack rather than an extra bag to worry about losing?
My DD14 would not want an extra bag for a few wee things, just a faff.

I’ve got two teenage girls and (when we are not in lockdown) I usually have quite a few round the house.
All of them put their phone keys etc in their blazer or coat pockets, or in pocket of main bag. I don’t know any who have a separate bag.
Do you almost mean like a small handbag in addition to the backpack you refer to?

Definitely not a bum bag (or bagel!). And valuables in an accessible backpack pocket is asking to be pickpocketed on the tube, and if they’re deep in the backpack they’re safe but a pain to get at when she needs them.

And yes, a small bag in addition to her backpack. She’s doesn’t have a blazer or any decent pockets.

The strap looks reasonable thickness.
Prices are reasonable and my dds love this website,.

Is this mumsy? It is fjällraven sold on urbanoutfitters. Does her group have an opinion. on the brand? Might be worth asking. It isn’t controversial, just the rucksack, though cute, was everywhere the past decade.

Have a look in Zalando they have loads of brands. Type in cross body bag, there’s quite a few with pockets.
