Colouring grey hair in my thirties

Basically I'm 32, 8 months post partum. I'm Indian with black hair but the greys have truly started to come through now!! 😭😭Lots of wiry ones around my hair line and parting.

Would it be easier to just get a box dye to cover them, or whether to get it coloured at a salon. I'd probably want a dark brown colour to give my hair some depth. I don't want to bleach my hair as I just don't have the energy or time for regular hair masks etc if it gets damaged/dry.

I'm clueless and I'd appreciate any advice.

I'm 37 and have been colouring my hair to cover grey for at least 10 years. Firstly think about whether you truly want to start colouring it - upkeep (esp with young child), root growth and constant coverage etc.

Do it yourself - pros: cheaper, convenient
Cons: colour build up, wrong tones, hair condition

Salon - pros: even colour, good condition, more natural results
Cons: price, going to salon regularly

Honestly wish I had just left mine to grow out gradually and naturally, it's now such a pain as root regrowth obvious after about 10-14 days, have to change hairstyle depending on how long is left before next appointment etc. I also think naturally greying hair can look beautiful now I'm a little older.

Colouring your hair because you like to change up different effects and colours is one thing, using dye to badly disguise your grey is a chore. The time between applications becomes shorter and shorter and no matter box or salon it's slowly going to damage your hair.
If you can hack it just let it come through naturally. You won't have any severe demarcation and your silvers will shine.
Have a good look around you. Spot those heads that are dyed and spot those who are wearing their grey happily.

Thank you @SlB09 and @silverstreaks for your responses.

I am very low maintenance so definitely something to think about as you both have mentioned that upkeep becomes more time consuming over time.

I'm just worried as against black hair the grey definitely is very noticeable. . .or maybe it is just to me!!

I don't want to look older before my time I think!! I think it's a culture thing too as looking "presentable" means making an effort all the time! 😭😭

If the grey is coming through as strands all over its easier to 'ignore' and wont be as noticeable. If its growing through as a grey band with hardly any of your dark colour then you may have to start to think about having low lights if you want to break that hard line up. But.. this is more upkeep. I went grey last year and it messed with my mind for a while but now I feel smug and free and I dont care whether people think I look older..I AM older :)

I know you can get stuff like mascara for your hair to disguise grey, so you could perhaps use that for a bit rather than rushing into colouring it.

My sister is naturally a brunette & has been colouring her hair to cover grey since her 20s now she's 42.
She uses box dyes mainly & her hair always looks nice & shiny & stylish.
I think it helps that she uses shampoo & conditioner for coloured hair that is full of natural ingredients?

Thanks everyone.

I think I might use those root cover up sprays for now, and if the grey does get particularly worse, I'll go down the colouring worm hole!
