Horridly Bruised after Botox - What Can I Do

I had Botox last Thursday and have been left with a horrific bruise on my nose where I was injected for bunny lines and a small bruise near my eye where I was injected for my crows feet. I am absolutely livid with the injector as well as with myself - she bruised me around my eyes last time I went (one of which has left a small permanent red mark) but I still stupidly went back. I put this down to bad luck (although I have never bruised from either Botox or fillers before) and simply asked not to be injected around the crows feet this time. She agreed not to inject me there but changed her mind and did it anyway.

After she had injected me in the nose she said she thought I was going to mark. She gave the area a vigorous rub - which I think did more damage. A huge brown bruise has come up. It looks like someone has given me a whack.

I have been googling bruises from Botox and it seems they can take many weeks to fade. Sometimes you can get permanent staining on the skin (called hemosiderin staining) which may or may not be successfully treated with laser. I know its early days yet but this bruise is not fading at all. Hopefully it will in time but I'm pretty confident it will leave some sort of mark. I do have broken veins in my nose and she must of nicked one (or several). The veins should have been fairly obvious though so presumably she could have avoided them.

I suspect she was using a larger gauge needle as the injections hurt more than normal and left more visible puncture marks in the skin and made more of a "crunch" when they went in.

The injector is a nurse with a long-standing practice and glowing reviews on her website.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did the bruises fade?

I can't hide the mark with makeup and have events organised this week so I will have to tell people the truth.

I've had Botox a few times and never ever bruised like that. Had two small marks from the needle but nothing else. It's also really bad that she rubbed the area as you shouldn't put pressure on the botoxed points as this can shift the product under your skin.... Maybe it's time to go somewhere else?
I'd just try as much as possible to pile the makeup on to hide it. Also don't drink any alcohol as this makes bruising worse.

Hi op,i had terrible bruising after the last time i had Botox,she injected in my actual nose and burst a blood vessel,the injection should have been between eyebrows
I had 2 black eyes,and looked horrendous,my nose swelled too,
I made enquiries from Save Face,the body who regulates these treatments
It turned out that she should have had a presciber with her as she wasn't one herself
Bing an ex nurse she was struck off,and wasn't allowed to do any aesthetics again,she had to before a board of nurses panel
I know it's a risk you take, but this was more than just normal bruising

I was actually offered money to tell my story to take a break and another magazine,which i turned down
I looked as if i had been in a bad car crash
Was your lady a presciber,[qualified to prescible medication] or did she have one with her,
If not she was working illegally

Also when i rang to let her know how bad it looked and asked her to see me she said she would see me in 2 weeks at review
I did find out later i wasn't the only one this happened to, but only one to take photos and report

I've been there. It's awful, isnt it. He hit a blood vessel. I looked like I had been punched in the face. I hate to say it but there's nothing you can do about it except wait .

I've never had Botox but use arnica cream on bruises and this makes them disappear in a few days

Had a nasty bruise from filler and arnica cream really helped.

Thank you for your replies everyone and sorry that I didn't reply earlier - I managed to spill tea on my laptop and had to wait until it was dry or risk frying it (and possibly myself). I'm sorry that some of you have also had bad experiences with bruising but relieved that the bruises do go...eventually.
Princess that sound horrific, so glad it was resolved in the end. What I don't understand is how the bruising can occur so far from the injection site, perhaps the Botox solution can spread pretty far. I'm pretty sure my injector is able to prescribe botox as she has her own clinic but I will try and check.

Hazy I did use arnica gel at first (until I lost the tube) but I am now using vitamin K cream but it hasn't done much yet. Reservoir I'm not drinking alcohol but I really want to!

I probably will get Botox again but not in the areas I bruised just in the forehead and frown lines (between the eyes) but most certainly with a different person who is going to get the third degree from me before I let them loose on my face!

Arnica tablets & pineapple (eat it) contains a compound which is meant to help with bruising

I'm taking bromelain tablets - I think that is what is in pineapple? I will get some fresh though, I love pineapple. Supposed to help if you eat it beforehand as well.

Mind you I was very glad to be wearing a mask today when I went shopping. When I went out for a walk without yesterday I got some very funny looks!

WTF? You never rub an area after putting Botox in as you risk the Botox leaking in to other areas.

Aestheticallychallenged she injected in my actual nose, that is why it swelled,i actually screamed out, my daughter was in the room with me and was very upset,my nose swelled and the woman rushed to get an ice pack, ,and gave me one to bring home
What was disgusting was that she just apologised by text and said she would see me in 2 weeks
I wish i had sued her, it was very painful, she denied injecting in my nose,but it was plain to see,and it bubbled up
She was also in a lot of trouble though because she was not a prescriber, and shouldn't give botox without one,
I didn't know that and i don't think many people do,or it's illegal

Take arnica prior to in future
I go to a plastic surgeon or a max fac specialist to have any work done
It is more expensive but worth it as the work is delicate and I have peace of mind

Just thought I would update. Most of the bruising has faded but still some greenish colouring left - probably take another week or so to go completely. It looks like I'm going to be left with a largish patch of broken veins on my nose where the nurse rubbed the area, I already had some broken veins there but they look much worse now and it will be difficult to cover with makeup. Can anyone recommend a good treatment for those?.

A decent concealer will cover broken veins.

The solution to a crap treatment is not more treatment. You sound obsessed.

Yes of course I am obsessed - I should accept looking crap and not try to do anything about it. Unfortunately I'm too vain. But I have been punished for that, and of course I also deserve a good telling off as well.

I've got a needle bruise this time,had it done yesterday.It was a different clinician to the one I normally use though,she never bruises me.

I think electrolysis was more effective from memory. But more painful. I just asked the lady doing it. I’ve had to do nose a few times as blowing nose aggravates them over time

To cover the bruises and broken veins you want Vichy dermablend, it's amazing and can quickly and easily cover a tattoo. I've used it in the past for scarring.
