Boycott Jo Malone + recommend me an alternative?

I won't be buying Jo Malone again after this, which I wanted to share for anyone who may not have seen it - www.theguardian.com/film/2020/sep/15/john-boyega-quits-role-as-jo-malone-brand-ambassador

But, my fave perfume is peony and blush suede! Can anyone recommend an alternative? I like that it's light, lasts all day, feminine but not overpowering at all. I like that it's a day time scent. I like things that are a bit green or wildflowerish. Any one know of something like that? Thanks!

These threads crack me up. You're going to boycott yourself into a corner. Plus I notice you never boycott anything really important.

Meaningful.

If you are boycotting Jo Malone, you will have to also boycott all the other Estee Lauder companies: Becca, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Darphin, Deciem (The Ordinary), glamglow, La Mer, MAC cosmetics, Origins, Smashbox, Too Faced, Tom Ford, Aramis, DKNY, LeLabo, Aveda and bumble and Bumble.....otherwise it isn't really standing up for anything!

interesting with the other companies, jo malone have behaved appallingly, I forgot they're part of estee lauder

excuse me @Skyliner001 I never boycott anything important??? Do you know me?!?! IRL I speak very loudly about boycotting Nestle and every single one of the many companies they own and work with, I am also against hate speech from the daily mail group. We can't all boycott everything I know, but it's important to speak up about companies and to get a conversation started.

Perfume Parlour have an excellent dupe of this, I'd say its better than the original. Far cheaper, and you're supporting a small independent rather than a multinational.

Are Becca an Estée Lauder company now?

You what now? It is completely and utterly normal to use culturally relevant models for different territory's campaigns . The issue here is that they copied the storyline of the campaign which, it turns out, was personal to John Boyega, the director as well as star, and about time with his family.
It as a cock up but not a racial issue. Unless John is a personal friend I'm not sure why this would cause you to boycott.

What about Jo Loves? I was a devoted Jo Malone customer, but I have made the switch to Jo Loves as I’ve found perfumes I love even more.

Second for Jo Loves. Jo Malone left her company a few years ago (after she got breast cancer) and started Jo Loves and they're scents are lovely!

On a similar note - any recommendations for a perfume similar to Jo Malone Earl Grey and cucumber please? Smile

They took his personal story and shoved another actor in its place this is after they reduced the picture of him on the star wars poster to this country too he had no warning no courtesy nothing

They did however apologise and admit they were wrong

ooh yes thanks I'll look at Jo Loves, I like the look of lots of hers

@ODFOx of course it's racist! Jo Malone have their first ever male black ambassador and treat him like shit. Jo Malone condone Chinese cultural hatred of black people

condone isn't a strong enough word, they are enabling racism

Third vote for Jo Loves. I don’t know what Estée Lauder did to the JM perfumes but they definitely seemed to change after it was sold.

Jo Malone is rubbish cologne (80% water and a fancy box anyway)
PP will last loads longer and aren't rip off merchants with a basenote of racism. Grin

Jenny Glow do great Jo Malone dupes. Their pomegranate one smells exactly the same and is much longer lasting. They do sell some on amazon but the best range is on their own website //www.makesscents.ie

I agree, it absolutely is racist.
John Boyega was their global ambassador. He worked with to create a film based on HIS life story, growing up in Peckham. He then starred in said campaign as it was his story.

A campaign that bloody won Jo Malone an award for best media campaign in a Global fragrance award.

So global ambassador, winning awards for a global campaign.

To then use that story, scene for scene, and using a Chinese actor???

Fuck off JM, so John Boyega was enough to be your global ambassador and win you awards. But oh, not in China??

Yes, race was clearly an issue

Definately try the Jenny Glow dupes mentioned above. I have the pear and freesia and the blackberry and bay and they are identical to Jo Malone. They also last a lot better as they are EDP formulations not colognes.

I have seen the actual ad and don’t get what is personal about the story. It is a typical, cringe perfume ad with the main protagonist being supposedly caught “off guard” in smileys poses. However of course the company should not have done this, they should have just made a different ad from scratch for territories they wanted a different marketing campaign in. It wouldn’t be too difficult anyway to come up with a similar but different cringe fest, these perfume ads are all the same.

not sure it's a dupe for your favourite but have you tried the Liz Earle fragrances? No 1 might be a good one for you, but they're very good layered-up with each other.

PP aren't rip off merchants? They copy other people's ideas. Why don't they create their own scents?
