What kind of eternity ring would 'go with' my engagement and wedding rings?

What do you mean? An eternity ring is a full circle of diamonds. Do you mean in terms of stone setting? Bear in mind that depending on the size/depth of the stones, an eternity ring can be quite 'thick/chunky' and can take a bit of getting used to. I love mine but it's a 'lot of ring.'

I’d go for a really dainty claw set one.

I suggest that you start by looking at your budget and you focus on the colour of the diamonds - that has a huge bearing on the sparkliness of the ring. Going from that you will get an idea of how many carats your budget will buy. And, based on that, you'll know how large each stone will be and therefore the type of ring you are looking at. You can get a massive one with horribly grey stones, or a small one with incredibly sparkly white ones. They may cost the same but the end result is miles apart. Also, the smaller the stones, the less metal you want, or the stones will look even smaller. The larger the stones, the more creative you can be with the settings. I just ran a quick Google search and these options came up www.google.com/search?q=eternity+ring+settings&sxsrf=ALeKk00JstUfN-2RKhZeAwcYFPa77Z0B8g:1599498032662&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi237jAwtfrAhWR2aQKHSpUDlwQ_AUoAnoECA0QBA&biw=1536&bih=754 The world is your oyster here! And don't forget about second hand - you will get A LOT more for your money and if the stones are good you can always have them reset in a way that you like.

Thanks guys.

Haven't got a particularly strict budget tbh, I doubt I'd want to spend anymore than £2k on a ring though (unless there was something that was perfect and I couldn't find anything I liked for less than that).

My rings are white gold rather than platinum (that being all we could afford at the time) so my eternity ring will be white gold too.

We had my engagement ring made so were able to choose the diamonds ourselves, I can't remember their colour or clarity though, will have the paperwork somewhere.

I like the look of the channel cut. I think I definitely have to go with round brilliant as that's what my engagement ring has.

I wonder if I should stick with a thin band a similar width as my wedding band with small diamonds? Would a thicker band look silly and feel chunky on my hand?

I’ve got one which is claw set alternate round brilliant and baguette diamonds. It’s beautiful, but I can’t wear it between my wedding and engagement rings because the diamonds sit right next to the high claw setting of my engagement ring and have worn a groove into the platinum. Just FYI.

@bubblesforlife that is really very pretty. I think it would work better as a stand-alone ring on my right hand though. Tempting.

If I were you I would go to a jewellers (any one with a big selection) and just try on a few styles. I think you tend to change your mind once you see something in the flesh. I think one that's got a similar claw set to your engagement ring but smaller stones would look good.

Go and take loads of pics then come back and post them, I love a good jewellery thread.

@UpToonGirl I'll defo go to jewellers at some point soon. Heavily pregnant at the moment and my hands are a little puffy so I think I'll wait til after the baby is born.
The engagement ring setting is an open tension setting. I really like it but it's honestly a bit of a pain as moisturiser and dirt etc can get caught in the sides easily so it's constantly being cleaned 🤣

Platinum is cheaper than white gold at the moment so I'd go for that. The gold price is outrageous at the moment.

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy I might be wrong but I don't think you can have a platinum ring against a white gold one, I think it wears the plating on the gold away.

White Gold will always need upkeep and need to be rhodium plated at least twice a year unless you prefer the duller colour etc (more if you're a fake tanner).

Platinum would wear away at gold in an industrial setting. For daily wear it's really not a problem.
