The new GHD Rise - anyone tried?

I ordered the GHD Rise and it arrived yesterday. I bought it as I had a 30% off voucher for GHD and I'm a sucker for new hair tools that have the potential of giving me the Kate Middleton blow dried style I have always aspired to (!)

I have used it twice and I absolutely love it! I'm still getting the hang of it but today and yesterday I managed to get bouncy curls and flicks in the ends of my hair that look like I have had my hair blow dried. It also smoothed my hair really well which I was surprised about as when I use my GHD Glide I have to go over the sections multiple times in different directions to smooth my frizzy hair but this smoothed it in just one brush through.

I have tried heated rollers, Babyliss Big Hair, blowdrying my hair with a round brush and the GHD Glide and none have given me the result I wanted. However this has! I really wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do.

Just wondering if anyone else has bought it and what they think? :)

I wouldn’t buy it, I think it’s too expensive for what it looks like - and I say that as someone who owns the Dyson hairdryer, the Dyson Airwrap and GHD straighteners.

I am always looking for the perfect fix- I have shoulder length coloured hair that looks smooth and healthy after a salon blow out but even after using Big Hair brushes - heated and the revolving one too ( can't recall names but think Babylis and Revlon??) I just manage to get a frizzy dried out look that is a pain to do and sectioning and arguing with it all, leaves me knackered !!! Most hot brushes are heavy and the actual brush either is no where near grippy enough to shape- or its a nightmare tanglefest....how is this better?? have read reviews and its mostly positive .....but I'm guessing it might be the 'product' that you use to start the blow dry with??? Ive never found one yet but would love to hear views

I had the same issue. I have the Babyliss Big Hair and it looks nice afterwards for around 10 minutes before it starts frizzing up. I find this smooths a lot so I don't have to go over it with straighteners and it stays smooth. I think for my hair I need it to dry properly and then be heat styled so things like the BBH don't really work for me as they leave my hair damp unless I go over and over it which means I end up using more heat.

Fair enough I was a bit cynical and I would like to try it but worried it's another thing!
I have the Ghd aura hairdryer (6 years and still going strong) the eclipse straighteners and the curve classic curl wand plus the crimpers and the glide.
The glide is okay but I've not been washing/styling my hair in lockdown.
Is the rise any better than the classic curl? I love the curls but they don't last long enough.

I don't have the classic curl I only have the soft curl tong but compared to the Rise they kind of do different things. The curling tong is more for loose curls whereas the Rise gives more of a bouncy blow dry look.

I bought the Glide thinking it would give that blow dry look but I just found it awkward to use. It smooths my hair I guess but it is quite heavy so I only use it maybe a few times a month when I just want to quickly straighten my hair.

I know GHD isn't cheap but I was a bit surprised at the Rise being £169! Sheer Luxe did a paid ad for it and the end result was dire (see pic) I've seen others get much nicer results though!

What didn't you like about the Glide? I've been thinking of buying it as I have really thick hair and want something to quickly smooth it down.

I've watched a few tutorials and I wasn't overly impressed - hadn't even realised the price! Saying that it might just be because I have loads of hair and it tangles easily so I can just imagine trying to get this through my hair.

It's strange as I have watched a lot of tutorials since buying it and they have all down a pretty poor job of demonstrating it. The best video I have seen is by Fashion Mumblr on Youtube, the result I get is similar to her.

I do think £169 is overpriced for what it is but to me it gives the result I have been trying to get for years (the Kate Middleton flicky ends/blow dried look) with various methods (blow drying with a round brush, Babyliss Big Hair, heated rollers, GHD Glide, curling it, etc). I did have a voucher so I only paid £118 which I think is a much more reasonable price.

I didn't love the Glide for my hair type. My hair is very frizzy and so to get it properly smooth I would have to go over it in all different directions with the Glide whereas because a straightener clamps the hair I only would need to pass the straightener through once. I also have lots of frizzy baby hairs and I find the Glide is too bulky to get to my roots properly. So I was using to smooth and straighten my hair and then having to get my straightener out to do my roots which kind of defeated the purpose. I do admit though that I like my hair to be very smooth and hate any amount of frizz so I am maybe being a bit harsh on the Glide. If I am just going on a dog walk or to the supermarket and want to just neaten my hair then the Glide is adequate to run through and smooth it. I guess it depends on how frizzy your hair is and how smooth and 'done' you want your hair to be.

@AutumnalDays does it add volume at the roots? I’m thinking of buying one for fine straight hair. Currently use a round brush and dryer.
