Give me your tips for walking in heels

Going out next weekend and I'm going to need to pull out my heels for this occasion. As I struggle to walk in them I usually avoid wearing them but I'm not going to this time as literally not much else will go with what I'm wearing.

Has anyone got any tips for me? Would love to be one of those who can walk confidently in them!

Practice! Wear them around the house so that you get used to them. And make sure you take proper long strides to prevent looking like a college student on a drunk night out. Pre-covid I would wear high heels every day. I love them so much and I don't find a problem walking in them at all, but probably because I wear them all the time.

@WineGetsMeThroughIt Don't they hurt your feet though? Kills the balls of my feet sometimes even when I wear the gel pads etc Sad

@bgal No not lost of the time. Sometimes I find them more comfortable than flats to be honest, but I think it really depends on the shoe. Of course there will be ones that don't fit right and hurt my feet. But I've got a few trust pairs that I know I can wear all day and even did some while 8 months pregnant.

Practice in the supermarket while pushing a trolley Wink

Squats, deadlifts and lunges. After working out for about a year I wore some heels to a wedding and felt really secure on my feet, no wobbling and no pain.

I need to start lifting again!

Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way. And not just in carpet!
Of possible don't wear a really skinny stilettos heel, the chunkier the heel the comfier the shoes.
Taping your third and fourth toes together helps with the burning, aching pain on the ball of your foot. Sounds odd but works a treat. (Count from big toe to pinkie toe.)

Look straight ahead when you walk, don't look at your feet!

And as a PP said, long strides rather than little tottering steps are best. A bit of a hip wiggle helps with the fluidity of the walk (no need to go OTT, just let your hips shift naturally as you walk), otherwise it can look a bit robotic

Practice and walk with confidence.
I need to start wearing mine again before I get out of practice!

As a pp said, look ahead instead of looking downwards. That and practice.

Weight on your heels rather than the balls of your feet. If you have an option of ankle boots or something with more support on the front of the foot you’ll find them comfier.

Don't. I gave up years ago.

Put your heel down first then ball, some people get tipped forward a bit and end up sort of tottering and putting heel/ball down on the ground flat at pretty much the same time. Ungainly and hurts the balls of your feet.
Never heard the taping your toes trick! Interesting!

I find the more enclosed they are at the front the better, so something with a strap or more structure up the front.

I have really high arches and struggle to find heels where my foot is in contact with enough of the shoe to be comfortable.

I hate heels. My boss wears them every day and I don't know how she does it (though my friend has an issue with her spine where she literally can't wear flats or she ends up in agony, so I guess we're all different shapes)

Buy lower heels.

I never managed well myself. Always found I was tipping forward. Watched Drag Race Canada where some newbies were taught how to walk in heels. Was in awe!!!
