Uneven eyebrow bald patch...wth?!

Can’t believe I never noticed until my 9yo mentioned it and pointed me towards the nearest mirror.

After a lifetime of naturally well-shaped, lovely, plentiful eyebrows that matched. One has gone practically bald on the last third (away from my nose). It’s really noticeable!

I’ve only ever plucked 2-3 stray hairs between my brows every few months. Never any products or other styling. Now at 48 I’m panicking. I’ve got no skills, no products and no idea why it’s happened. I have embarked on some more serious skincare stuff in the last 6 months (retinol, AHA/BHAs, niacinemide, peptides), could that have affected it?

Any ideas for preventing further ‘shedding’ and techniques (for newbies) to camouflage the bald patch?

It might be an idea to get your thyroid function tested OP. Thinning eyebrows can be a sign of a problem.

Thanks- any medical tests will have to wait where I am, but I’ll flag it after lockdown eases.

Same boat here! Got my blood tests done. Thyroid is ok but few other 'low stores'. GP has asked me to have supplements for 3 months & then we will see.

The good news is that once you find the root cause & fix it, they DO grow back (fingers crossed).

Meanwhile, eyebrow pencil is your friend.

Do you use a facial scrub? I lost the inside part (nearest nose) of both my eyebrows (one more than the other) by being over zealous with a facial scrub a couple of years ago. I'd literally sanded them away! I started being more careful and they eventually grew back.

I get that, more on one eyebrow than the other. I just fill in the gaps lightly with brown eye shadow. Tried different pencils but they are too harsh.

I second getting your thyroid checked when you can. It's worth speaking to your Dr now as they are still working. I had a phone consultation then an appointment with the nurse for bloods to be taken.

I can't say what the results are like as I have only just started. But i read a recommendation on here to use Regaine on the brows. Some of the before and after photos on reddit are impressive! I got the bottle of womens solution and am applying it to clean brows at night with a small brush.

Yes, get your thyroid levels checked. Losing the outer third of your eyebrow(s) is weirdly enough a possible symptom of a thyroid imbalance.
