Beauty Advent Calendars 2020

After a weird year, who is thinking about treating themselves? Can’t believe how quickly this has come round!

Nothing is out yet but some places are keeping waiting lists for notifications e.g. Cult Beauty. The John Lewis sneak peak looks promising. And I believe Body Shop is out the end of this month.

Any you will be looking out for? I’m thinking of splurging on a decent one this year — I had serious envy over Cult Beauty last year. I’ve also become a huge SpaceNK fan this year so I’ll have my eye out to see what they’re producing.

My big surprise hit last year was Holland and Barrett — super cheap and some brilliant items. If it’s as good this year I might end up with that as a bonus.

Hi Writer I was on last year's thread and bought Holland and Barrett too. I also had M&S but definitely giving them a miss this year. I have been saving for some time now to buy a luxury one. Have always had envy over them, especially the Cult Beauty one last year. So far I have my eye on Liberty - the details have been released and it looks really brilliant. Have always hankered after a luxury calendar and this is the year!Grin

Ooo I haven’t seen the Liberty. I’ll go look.

I always get one as a Christmas present for a friend. I gave up on the M&S one as they got very samey and last year bought the Looks Fantastic one which was great.

I'd love the Liberty one but can't justify the spend.

I think the contents are worth about £800 this year...nearly. I have wanted one for so many years then a poster here a couple of years ago said to save up a little so I did! Knowing me though Cult Beauty will come out and I will change my mind!😂

Last year I took a stance and didn't buy one. I missed it!

My friend and her adult daughter made their own for each other and it was lovely, no random Percy and Reed product they won't use or another black mascara samples Grin so I might do that.

I've always hankered after the Cult Beauty or SpaceNK ones, I'm not shopping at Body Shop anymore. I'll take a look at the Liberty and John Lewis ones.

I had the Liberty GWP for the last 2years and use the products to fill an empty calendar from previous years
Found this was better value as I chose the items I wanted to purchase and the GWP was valued at around £400

Yes, Body Shop is definitely out! I was reading about the contents this year and they're not very exciting anyway. When does the Liberty GWP come out? That sounds good!!

Report
Nanasueathome · 14/08/2020 16:54

The GWP is usually October. Before the advent calendar comes out
Only there for very short time as it sells out really quickly
The products are very similar to the advent calendar items

Oh ok, thanks Nana. I will definitely look out for that as it might be a better way to spend my money. Thank you!!

Will definitely buy the H&B one again! I'm still using all the stuff from last year's and have repurchased several items too.

Wonder if M&S will have to up their game this year. Thought last year's was quite uninspired!

Thank you for starting the thread - was feeling a bit meh about the thought of Christmas but a beauty advent calendar is definitely something to look forward to Grin

Paula (LDN diaries) has set up a site dedicated to them beautyadventcalendar.net/ I've used her lists for the past few years now. I admit to being slightly OTT about calendars, I've actually had one (small business/lifestyle items) on pre-order since February!

Last year I had Cult and Asos (Black Friday & I needed a new Elemis cream Wink ) I usually have M&S but it just wasn't good for me which is why I went for a high end one.

Hope we can all get something we enjoy

My friend and her adult daughter made their own

I do this for my DD -she's 18yo, will only use Cruelty Free so its easier just to buy things myself .
Last year I bught a gift box , I had ribbon and re-usuable wooden 1-24 tags .
No waste amd I know she'll use it all.
It works out ££ but it's part of her presents .....and I need to start thinking soon Xmas Grin

Please don't buy The Body Shop! They are horrible misogynists these days Sad

Wouldn't touch The Body Shop with a barge pole after their disgraceful treatment of JKR and women in general. Plus, don't like MLM companies.

I got the Amazon one last year it was my first advent calander and felt like such a treat each day.

I've only ever done M&S, it has some good stuff but does get repetitive and unfortunately seems to repeat the things I don't use. Body Shop is out due to treatment of JKR. Holland and Barrett sounds promising, I like the Dr Organic products.

I got the White Company one and it was well worth the price

Report
Writersblock2 · 15/08/2020 11:28

I don’t use Body Shop either. No way after the JKR issues.

I’m likely to get the GWR from Liberty or SpaceNK this fall (the former was fab this summer) but I’ll still end up with a calendar. Can’t wait!

I'm on more of a budget so may try to give it a miss.

I usually buy the M&S and it is useful for travel sizes and I gift things I don't use.

@SlipsAndLols I am also struggling to use the randomPercy and Reed product, I feel I should use it up but it's hopeless.

I loved M&S as my first foray into calendars. I've kept it and will refill with GWP. I would like to buy a new calendar too and plan to keep my refilled one for January as I always find the dark days a challenge. Perhaps I need one for Feb too.....

I will be getting one this year - not been able to justify the cost before. Not sure which I'm interested in though as I'm purely for make up and not really wanting skincare or hair stuff (I have solid routines with products I love and don't want to change). The makeup in cult beauty last year looks good but half the products I'd never use. Wondering if I should go drugstore - makeup revolution I love! - or higher end like MAC, though don't buy from them that much anymore as I have almost every shade of their lipsticks Grin

I've spoken to my adult DD, we've decided that we are going to make a calendar for each other, with things we want.

When I spoke to DD I said that for one day I would put in some nice chocolate too and a couple of days I'll put in a different gift, probably a pair of earrings I know she will like and some hair accessories.

We're going to personalise it and use small gift bags made from recycled paper and hang them on decorative washing lines. They are made from string with small wooden pegs. I already have these, we originally used them for photos when my DMum had a big birthday party.

We can buy cosmetics and skincare that is ethical and we know we will both use.
