I am in the market for a silk kimono.

Does anyone own one that they love or hate?

I think I'd like a long, classic / dramatic sort of one, rather than a short "dressing gown" type one. I've been admiring the ones by Genevie online but they're only shorter styles.

I like the look of the big-sleeved dramatic ones like the attached (VERY Nora in The Thin Man) but in the photos of them being modelled they look a bit chaotic, and I'm not mad about the prints of that designer.

Any wisdom welcome, if anyone has any to offer!

I am in the market for a silk kimono.

No advice on that brand, sorry, but do check whether its real silk (if that is what you want) or listed as 'satin' which is often just nylon or polyester. Pure silk will be significantly more expensive, but cooler, as its a natural fibre.

Consider how long and flowing the sleeves are, because they are a fire risk if you'll wear it when cooking.

Also check the length, I had a similar, long floating dress and when I'd go up stairs, I always trip over the skirt part!

I have a shorter one, it's a genuine Japanese silk vintage one, bought from Ebay. I love it but don't find it very easy to wear: it's thick and lined so it's more like a jacket but also big and swishy with huge sleeves so not very practical. I love it, but don't wear it anywhere near as much as I want to. Not sure that's a help but that's my opinion for you! You can get lovely quality ones on ebay so worth a look either way.

This is very helpful! And good tip Eloura - another thing I meant to mention is that cleaning it is likely to be a bugger if it's real silk, which is worthy of consideration.

One Hundred Stars have beautiful designs...not silk, but might be worth a look.

Second link is a 70% silk blend...but might be easier to clean?

I keep eyeing up Verry Kerry verrykerry.com

They are made of bamboo (which is quite silky) or organic cotton so should be easier to wash. I haven't invested yet though!

Sharon on Catastrophe has a lovely dressing gown. I'd like to know where it's from.

I have one I absolutely love it and quite often sleep in it! I also use a silk pillow case and eye mask so I just wash them by hand weekly altogether it’s not as much fuss as you might think

I came on to say One Hundred Stars.
Currently toying with the idea of a Rome map gown, for an upcoming break in Rome.

I have a silk kimono, it’s lovely, not double lined - I’ve had it for 16 years but don’t wear it every day in the summer. I wash it as a cold delicate wash. Silk is pretty resilient. It needs patching as I got a hole where I adjust my knickers a lot 🙈 but that’s quite easy to do. I bought a gorgeous cotton one to wear daily recently as I didn’t want the silk one to get too tired. Ooh, I've been thinking about a kimono!

Does anyone know if the short One Hundred Stars kimonos are a generous fit?

I'm a size 20 and would wear it open over a vest top.

Biba (via House of Fraser) have a nice floral one. Not the big sleeves but I found those awkward on the short one I have. But great floral patterns and full length

These look lovely. I am not sure I could pull it off though.

They are very wafty though and I am rather fond of wafting.
