Can anyone help with bra size for teen

Dd (13 next week) has grown a lot over lockdown and crop tops just aren't cutting it anymore, usually I would just take her to John Lewis to get fitted like I did for her older sisters but obviously they currently aren't offering that service so looking to order something online, can anyone help with sizing

She measures 29 under bust and 34.5

I went into M&S a few weeks ago with my teen, told the lady what she wearing and what size and she recommended a couple to try. Ask to speak to a bra fitter, even though they can’t measure she will be experienced on sizing. The size she recommended was good.

Don't use M&S.

28D or E or 30C or D. 28 bands are ridiculously hard to find.

Those sizes quoted are smaller than a 34B.

I never get measured well at M&S - they always put me in too wide a back. 34B sounds too big if she’s measuring 29 inches.

I used Boob or Bust and find it really accurate, it will also take into account that she’s a teenager. Good luck :)

There’s no way she can be a 34 anything if her underbust is 29! Sounds like classic (terrible) plus 4ing. Would you measure your waist at 29 inches and then buy a 34 inch waist pair of jeans?

Yes that's exactly what it said to add 5 inches bringing her up to 34

Maybe i can talk to a fitter in John Lewis and get some help, there have been brilliant with my older dd

Unless she’s a size 18 she isn’t a 34 band size. She has my chest size and I’m wearing a 28d from Freya. She’d spend her life hoiking her bra straps up in a 34 band.

Try her in a 28DD, or a 30D but be aware elastic wears out and what feels tight at first is ok after a few days.

Women generally wear bras that are too big in the band and too small in the cup. 34 is actually a fairly middle sized woman, not a 13 year old. She will be more like a 30C or D. Sounds odd but only if you have been wearing the wrong sized bra all your life! Remember, a 30D has a much smaller cup than a 36D. Don't get hung up on the 'D'. 30 because it is the closest to 29" (don't get 28 - hard to find and she will grow out of it in a month) and D because if she has a 34.5 overall bust measurement, then the difference between that and 29 puts her at around D

@lazylockdowner yes it’s a very old fashioned and unnecessary, but unfortunately still widely used thing to add these inches to the band. It’s left from the days when bras didn’t have elastic, now they definitely do (and have since the 60s so the adding inches thing really need to stop)

There is absolutely no need to add inches to modern bra. Putting a 34 band on a 29 rib cage will mean no support (80% of a bras support should come from the band) and cups that don’t actually fully enclose the breast tissue. It’s as logical as wearing jeans 5 inches too big in the waist, you just wouldn’t do! There isn’t a single department store that trains their stuff to measure correctly so we have millions of women in the wrong size feeling uncomfortable but don’t know why.

Honestly, give the Boob or Bust calculator, and maybe try it on yourself while you’re at it!

I’d go for a 30 band. C/d cup. If you’re just buying the bra m&s is good. Both did and myself have bras from there that are a great fit. We just fitted ourselves.

Dd is 14 and likes pink at victoria secret. They often have good offers on. Also gilly hicks. M&S had a good deal on 2 for £18. For dd it’s been about playing about with styles and seeing what suits her shape. She likes the Demi cup/plunge style. Which sounds quite mature style but bear in mind usually brought in a plain style no lace etc and in nude or white.

I'd recommend boob or bust too. It was life changing for me. I've measured my teen on there and she's a 30F. Unfortunately she doesn't get on with underworld bras and we are really struggling to find a non wired with decent support but also pretty enough for a teen.

Bravissimo can offer fitting over the phone by trained fitters or better still some of their shops have opened and they'll do fittings in store. They do 28 backs in a variety of styles.

I genuinely don't know where the plus four thing comes from, I've never seen it anywhere. Even as a teen some 25 odd years ago, I was told to use the closest measurement to the underbust.

If she is measuring as 29 inches, she will be a 28 or 30 in the band size.
