Best Jo Malone perfume for me....

BaconAndAvocado · 31/07/2020 21:10

DH is going to treat to some JM perfume for my birthday but I'm not sure which one would be good for me.

The type of perfumes I usually go for are Angel, La Vie est Belle and Coco Mademoiselle. I like a sweet strong smelling perfume!

Any ideas?

If you like strong perfumes you don't want any Jo Malones tbh. Have you tried any? They're lovely, many of them, but they're colognes so have the lasting power of a gnat's piss. They're also fairly simple notes, just one or two elements.
I love Wood Sage and Sea Salt but it's not remotely like the ones you like.
You should go and try some before spending a lot of money, or if it's a special treat maybe a Chanel Exclusif or a Dior Exclusif? Or something niche?

I think you might like Chanel Coromandel.

I think I’d pick a perfume I wish and love rather than decide on a brand and ask randoms on line.

Just to chime in on this, what longer lasting and slightly more complex citrus perfumes would you experts recommend if I like JM LBM / grapefruit etc?

OP pomegranate noir body cream lasts forever on me if that’s your thing?

Try Pomegranate Noir, it’s strong, has staying power and is divine.

I think it's the wrong thing to do to buy fragrance without trying first. What suits someone else may not suit you. I'd stick with what you know until you can try them out.

Endless- by their nature citrusses aren't going to last, but look for an EdT rather than a cologne.
My favourite citrusses:
Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien (lemons)
Annick Goutal Eau du Sud (more crisp and lime)
Liz Earle 1
Chanel Paris Deauville
Mary Greenwell Lemon (a lemon chypre so lasts for longer)
4711 cologne is citrussy, and Boots do a 400ml bottle of lemon cologne. Doesn't last but it costs about £6 so you can resplash it all over!
Superdrug do a £4.99 Basil Lime Mandarin which lasts longer than JM and iirc so does H&M.
4160 Tuesdays do some citrusses- I'm not keen on their perfumes as they manage to make even citrus over sweet but if you like that...Rhubarb and Citrus, Lemon Sherbert and Sunshine and Pancakes all have a lemony orangey thing.
M&S has a great perfume department with lots of Mediterranean citrussy based fragrances.

But people here are brilliant at suggestions.

What’s that French place that will send you sample sizes based on things you say you like? I heard about it on here.

Does Jo Malone still sell the Blue Agava and Cacao fragrance? That's like a grown-up version of Angel.

I have the same taste in perfumes with the once you mentioned being favourites and I love JM Wild Bluebell. Pomegranate Noir is a bit to deep for me.

I adore Peony and Blush Suede and will always happily spend money on it but as has already been said, if you like strong, lasting perfumes, JM may not be for you - unless you can wangle a matching body lotion out of him too to layer it up?

i agree, JM offers only colognes so they are like eau de toilette really or a spritz to perk you up, i use chanel coco mademoiselle or intense JM if i want long lasting

the only jo malone that lasts for me and i feel is really worth it is myrhh and tonka cologne intense. i regret many ive bought as i fell for the scent and then got pissed off at the short lived enjoyment!

i'm only my second bottle and its the only Jo Malone i'd buy now as its very warm, spiced but not sugary sweet.

i would recommend testing at a store if covid allows.

Iirc blue agave wotsit is discontinued but perfume parlour used to do a dupe.

Endless- nose.fr is the site you're thinking of- though I decided they were CFs as I did their test thing a couple of times with different perfumes yet was sent samples which were nothing like- I think they just send whatever they've got in that week

Just remembered- for citrus (and others) Atelier Cologne do a sample set with loads and loads of perfumes (each with a beautiful postcard) for about 30€. Lots of them are citrussy.

What about Velvet Rose and Oud? It's a rich, sweet scent from memory and is a cologne.

Report
vixxo · 01/08/2020 13:03

But you should try them before you buy. Pomegranate Noir is very popular but it smells like piss to me.

And Red Roses smells like stinky saliva.

Please try them before you buy!
