I tried the ordinary ages ago but didnt like it. Now I have my skin looking good and have a decent routine, I want to reintroduce it. Any recommendations for an oily skinned/ fair, 30 year old women?

I am similar complexion to you and used a Paulas Choice one for a good few months. I didn’t think it was doing much but since NOT using it I’ve noticed many more fine lines, so maybe it was.

I quite like Medik8.

I’ve just started Niod NAAP (non acid acid precursor) which apparently works in same way as retinol. Too early to tell but the reviews (very positive) say to bear with it when it seems like it isn’t doing anything at first.

Have heard that the gold standard is Skinceuticals but have tried one of their products before and didn’t get on with it and also £££

I was using the redermic R cream from La Roche Posay which was nice and fairly gentle, but I’ve recently started using one from Medik8 which I also really like. Medik8 also have lots of different strengths and formulations, mine is the standard retinol 0.3, but there are all different types (some pretty pricey though!)

I know you tried The Ordinary, but have you tried their more recent one that is combined with Squaline? They make it in three strengths, and I much prefer it to the first one they brought out.

I am 30. I should probably start using. Is it preventative?

Medik8, built up from 3 to 6, alternate with Dermatica.
It's taken 6 months but I can now see results.

Tretinoin. Beauty products don’t really compare.

Tretinoin, on prescription from dermatica. Retinol is an ester of retinoic acid and unlikely to have much effect.

Another vote for tretinoin from Dermatica, 0.05% with niacinimide. Such good value for a prescription tretinoin, and so much more effective than anything you can buy from a beauty brand.

I'm really noticing a difference using Aldi's Retinol toner. And a bargain for £3.99.

I buy tretinoin online from a Spanish pharmacy. It's incredible stuff
