Mid 40s and I want a jumpsuit - am I mad?

I have an urge for one that has nearly overcome me tonight. Was even scoping out one for 250 quid on Me & Em.

Am I mad? DH who is lovely and kind and quite good at choosing me nice clothes eg for Christmas said god no when I said shall I get one. But I still think I want one.

I am size 12 and 5ft 6. Slim but no waist so I need one with some sort of waist- belt or elasticated or something. Was thinking maybe in dark denim.

Anyone got any suggestions to tempt me away from remortgaging for the Me & Em one?

Or would I look too try hard/Top Gun not in a good way?

Go for it! I'm 45, a 12-14 on a good day and 6'2 and I LOVE a good jumpsuit. You have to be careful that it doesn't resemble a boiler suit though - not a good look.

I love a jumpsuit!!! Approaching forties, I believed I was too old for them until last year. I ordered a cheap one from boohoo just to see how I felt in it. I LOVED it. I have a few now, my favourite ones are from Long Tall Sally (I’m nearly 6ft tall). I just have to be careful with styles because I am apple shaped and also have massive boobs.
I’d say go for it!!!

All I can say as 5ft 7" & a size 12, I looked liked a fat Elvis in a denim one, well that and a cross between Daffyd from little britain.

So now I'm veering towards these sleeveless types -
Whistles

OP have a look at Anthropologie and Reiss, they have some nice ones in just now.

I am mid forties and have just counted 5 jumpsuits, a pair of dungarees and a playsuit in my wardrobe. Pretty sure I look banging in all of them Grin.

FWIW, don’t think denim is entry level jumpsuit wear. For a first jumpsuit I’d go a teeny bit more dressy - not much but just enough. Denim can go from Jumpsuit to Boilersuit with one poor mascara smudge.

I'm 55 size 12 and 5'6" and have over 20 jumpsuits! ( I have a very extensive wardrobe Grin Grin) I love them although must admit don't have one resembling a demon boiler suit! I think they are a really great wardrobe staple as can be formal, I have a couple of Marella and Joseph Ribkoff ones, to casual ones from Uniqlo.
I think you should try one!

OP, you are not mad. But it’s cold when you go for a wee in the winter and you have to almost totally undress.

Omg 😂 I would look like an elderly slightly deflated beach ball 😂

I love a jumpsuit, one 'n' done. I'm mid 40's I live in them. Some other posters are right though they're a bugger when you for a pee.

i bloomin love the way jumpsuits and playsuits look, but i really object to the idea of having to get undressed to have a wee, so have resisted so far. it just seems to make them a fundamentally impractical item of clothing for me

I actually like the looser boiler suit look, without a waist, or a looser waist at least.. Open low with a vest top or t shirt underneath, rolled up a little at the ankle with birkenstocks or similar chunky sandal or hi tops.

Alyson Walsh hits the tone brilliantly I think:

I also don't really get the toilet issue, sure it's a little more tricky, but I just catch the sleeves on the way down and wrap or tie them round the waist so the top half folds into the trousers and they don't fall on the floor. I also go to the toilet in private, so sitting in my bra isn't really a big deal for me.

I'm 47, 5'9, size 12-14, and have 15 (!) jumpsuits ranging from a denim boilersuit, to the almost all Cos ones for work, to black tie-worthy ones. They are completely normal now - I felt pretty daring wearing my first one about a decade ago but they're just another garment. Going to the loo is more of a pain in some styles than others (I'm looking at you, Zara, and your impossibly fiddly teeny tiny buttons).

It's like anything else, trial and error. The style of the top half that suits you will be the same as the style of top that normally suits you. Ditto the bottom half. Sometimes I can get away without a tie belt, sometimes I can't. Some tie belts look woeful on me.

I love them, there are so many styles out there, I wouldn't think twice about it. As @fizzpopbang123 says, Alyson Walsh is brilliant on the power of a good jumpsuit.

Favourite hunting grounds: Anthropologie/ Whistles (as per PPs), Cos, Toast for boiler styles/linen (in the sales!), Hush do a good range and I've got some cracking ones from, randomly for me, Topshop Boutique and Asos. Monki also very strong on jumpsuitery.

Late 30’s and the only reason I’m not living I’m my playsuit right now is I can’t breastfeed In it.

Do it! I bought one from Mint Velvet. I haven't managed to wear it as it feels a bit nice to wear just working from home, but I love it. Have also bought dungarees (Fat Face) and I'm mid 40s. Love them both :)

I saw a fab one in the Essential Antwerp sale, and am still mulling on it but I've been wearing them on and off for 20 years!
