I have just returned to JL the Ida large check dress in a size 8. Lovely dress, beautiful quality cotton, but the colour was totally wrong on me ( very pale skin, grey hair).
On the other hand the wrap around Cotton voile dress in mid blue is gorgeous and I’m keeping it !

New thread! We will all be accused of being Toast plants, you know!

Charles, I actually had shocking CS from Toast last year re a damaged dress. It took weeks to get the refund, and in the end I raised a PP complaint, which got pretty quick action. I swore at the time that I’d never buy direct from them again, which lasted about 6 months. Hmm. My experience is that they don’t seem to cope well when things go wrong. OTOH, I posted normal returns back to them on Wed, and the refund was back in PP on Friday.

saurus, love the dress on you. I’m 5’7 and it was on the short side for me. Was interested to read about the podcasts you’ve been listening to - have you any recommendations?

Another day. Another delivery.

The v neck denim pinafore is going back. The 10 is too tight around the chest and I don’t love it enough to try the 12.

The full price Lydia dress is gorgeous www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+dresses+and+tunics/c1jjb/lydia+jersey+shift+dress.htm?clr=C1JJB_WashedBlack_sw

Will work as a light beach/holiday dress as it is or with a tshirt or jumper underneath so I’m telling myself it’s versatile!

I also treated myself to a bar of the glycerin soap and it’s amazing.

@ilovecherries Podcast - The Business of Fashion (BoF) is interesting. I signed up for a months free trial and there were quite a few webinars etc. Now I’m off the trial, I mainly keep up with their podcasts by following on Instagram. Some less interesting but they also have quite a big back catalogue. I think I’m just fascinated by retail and coronavirus seems to be speeding up developments that were already happening - decline in bricks & mortar etc - and I’m interested in what’s next.

I love my Lydia dress @slipperyeel but it is the one thing I had to get shortened.

Welllll! I was poking round the JL website (as one does) and I have been keeping an eye out for the Alix trousers as I’d like to try them , I clicked on them, it said sold out, and lo and behold there was a pair. The confirmation email even came through. I am going to have to sit on my hands for sure now. Although I’ve saved hundreds! And they may go back as I’ve been quite optimistic size wise.

It’s called simply the Cotton Voile Wrap dress in Ink Blue. Sold out but some sizes keep reappearing. I’m so pleased with it, the photos don’t do justice to it.

@Moominmammaatsea yes I should be thanking you for steering me towards that coat dress, your enthusiasm was catching Grin

To get back to a conversation started on the other thread I think if Toast could hold their prices it would be best as I for one buy it for the quality but since I started buying 2/3 years ago things have crept up quite steeply in some instances. I wouldn’t want quality to suffer though. It’s fine waiting for sales but occasionally there’s a must have out of sale time.

The voile dress is lovely. I was very tempted but I really can’t justify any more purchases now.

Can I ask @Gonegrey31 how low is it at the front? And how is the sizing? Normally I'm a 12 but being generous of nork I'm wary of anything low at the front, but there is a 14 left in the sale. If its not too low, and slightly small sized I could be tempted.

@Countmeout - was it you bought the Size 8 slate Alix? I have been stalking a pair ever since I got the other colour. They are wonderful - very generously sized though.

Report
Countmeout · 22/06/2020 20:52

@faustina yes, I’m a 10 normally - in trousers- but I have a pair of Toast heavier trousers in an 8 - not sure it will work in the Alix . I thought the slate would work with other things I have. I was totally surprised to find although it said sold out they were in stock. I’m not going to count on having them until they arrive. I’m expecting them to email to say it was all a mistake.

I also agree that quality is key with Toast. If that slips, I’m off! No point in buying timeless pieces if the quality is poor and they won’t last. That said I can only afford Toast in the sale, full price is just out of my budget. I do spend quite a lot there though....Hmm

faustina · 22/06/2020 21:17

@Countmeout - the slate is a wonderful colour. I have the cotton/linen smock in the same fabric, and a pair of These in an XS which swamp me a bit, but which I will keep if I can't get the Alix ones at JL prices. The Alix are a bit neater fitting

Just washed my linen dresses for the first time, they don't even need an iron, just a good shake on a hanger. Hallelujah!

Report
Gonegrey31 · 22/06/2020 22:14

The dress has a proper separate under dress that means the neckline is not low. I’m old ( sixties) and can’t wear anything low cut. It should be fine !
I think it is quite true to size but you can tie it to make it mire snug. Hope this helps.

Alsohuman · 22/06/2020 22:31

That’s excellent news @goldpendant, I wasn’t looking forward to the ironing.

Someone fairly recently up thread mentioned they’d splashed out on a luxurious Toast soap bar among their order and I wanted to give a plug to this Lancashire heritage company which makes soaps for Toast (and other brands) as it’s not a million miles away from where I live (wrong side of the Pennines as I’m in God’s Own Country of Yorkshire, but I can forgive them that 😀). The soaps are divine, incredibly affordable to order direct and you’d be supporting a business at a low ebb commercially speaking. It’s Droyt.com

There are returns on the JL site! I’ve just got the the denim v neck Dress for 45 pounds in a 10. I’m going to return the Toast one I got for 60 and claim the returns back via PayPal now that I’ve signed up!
