Basic skincare for pre teen?

DD11 is starting to get the odd spot, she has just started getting boobs and is highly hormonal so I think it's all related. I'd like to get her started with a basic skincare routine, I had bad spots growing up (not acne) so if I can help her in anyway way I'd like too.

Has anyone done this, is it too soon? Any advice appreciated!

Effaclar duo from La Roche Posay.
DD started using it when she was about the same age.
Gentle cleansing to keep excess oil at bay, again LRP, Cerave, Cetaphil etc.
Don't touch Simple with a bargepole. It isn't.

My niece is 10 and she uses Boots brand of face wash (like clearasil) She has quite a spotty forehead and is quite conscious about if. I don’t think you can ever start to soon with basic skin care

I'd recommend something gentle like Simple - don't start on stuff like Clearasil if she's only getting the odd spot. Just cleanse and moisturise before bed.

Just a gentle face wash. I wouldn’t moisturise at that age.
For the odd spot, go to GP and get a prescription for mildest form of Duac cream. She would just use it daily on her forehead (where ever spots tend to pop up).

Thanks all it seems to be her nose but she is pretty self conscious about it

@PlanDeRaccordement why wouldn’t a child moisturise? There is nothing ‘grown up’ about moisturising. I’ve always moisturised since childhood.
I would say a cleanser and a moisturiser and a spot treatment of either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide is fine for now.

The Effaclar duo is a moisturizer and spot treatment in one.
DD was spotty but also dry, so used the Effaclar more as a treatment and likes Nip&Fab teen range for moisturiser, or Effaclar H which is a moisturizer on its own.

Cinnamon buns,

Moisturiser is only needed if the child or adult has dry skin- rough, flaky, tight, etc. If you don’t have dry skin, you don’t need a moisturiser. Children with normal skin very rarely need a moisturiser.

If you find that your cleanser makes your skin dry, then it is too harsh a cleanser for your skin.

The skin care industry often pairs a too strong cleanser and/or toner with a ‘recommended moisturiser’ as part of a pre-set “skin care routine” so they can sell you several products instead of one simple, gentle cleanser. It’s obvious to any dermatologist..,you see popular brands with different ranges. Eg, “Use our rejuvenating skin care routine for women over 40: Rejuvenating blah blah cleanser, followed with our rejuvenating youth toner, and rejuvenating day moisturiser and intense youth rejuvenating night moisturiser, also wrinkle fighting under eye deep rejuvenating cream. Blah blah.
Or “oil control” or “spot busting” for teen skin care routine/range. They always combine too harsh, drying substances with moisturising ones to correct the dryness they have deliberately caused.

www.spots-and-stripes.com/product/girls-gentle-cleansing-lotion/ DD11 uses this and I’ve been impressed, she’s also quite hormonal!

The Effaclar cleanser is great.
