Are acetate/ plastic glasses frame still in?

Looking to get a new pair and I never seem to get my glasses right!

Define “in”

I’m in my early 20s and have a pair of clear frame glasses with blue light filter lenses. I wear them as a fashion accessory - I wouldn’t wear them at work (finance with corporate attire). For me, they would be situational so I wouldn’t want to commit to them being my only pair of glasses to wear for every occasion.

I also work in the City and every second person has clear acetate glasses. I think they (mostly) look great.

I hope so. Mine are and this is the only style that suits me. The retro metal ones are just hideous (at least on my aging face).

I had metal ones as a gangly, awkward teen and I’m not keen on repeating that!

Where I live it's nearly all plastic frames but I'm just starting to see very hip women in metallics so I would say we're on a cusp. But fashions in specs change very slowly so I think it'll be several more years before it takes hold.

I tried some old metallic specs on recently. They looked weird but that's only because I'm not used to them. I'm sure in another 10 years we'll be looking back at plastic frames. and wondering what we were thinking.

I think metals are becoming slowly more trendy than acetates, but there are still plenty of acetates that are very fashionable. Just avoid very rectangular shapes if you want to avoid the dated look.

My husband has worn retro metal ones since they weren't retro. He was a bit miffed when he realised that many of his students had started wearing the same style, particularly when a couple complemented him on his.

I only wear plastic glasses. Whether they are 'in' I have no idea but they are considerably more comfortable than metal ones with poky little nose pad things.
Comfort before style for something I have to wear all my waking hours.

That's a very good point about comfort. I'm not against metallics - had been thinking about going back but yeah those poxy little nose pads are fecking useless.

They’re very useful if you don’t have the “average” nose! I spend half my life pushing up frames without them.

If you're ever likely to put your glasses up on your head, avoid the metal ones. The nose pads will pull your hair out in lumps.

Actually 'useless' was the wrong word - it's the way they pinch the sides of my nose unless they fit spectacularly well. And, even though I only take my specs off to shower and sleep, those red marks they leave really annoy me.

I've got a plastic pair & a metal pair.
The plastic pair have been refitted but they still slide down my nose!
So I can only wear the metal pair. It's really annoying.

My prescription sunglasses are plastic but fit perfectly.
