Hi, what brand do you recommend for flattering summer shorts? Used to like j crew chino shorts but the most recent order I placed took a month to arrive so not bothering with them again.

Anyone? Where do you buy flattering summer shorts? 4 or 5" not knee length/Bermudas. Thanks!

I ordered the Berwick and the Bamburgh but the Chino styles are also lovely - and they do different leg lengths too.

I think you need to give us more info on your figure and taste.

I find Topshop, River Island and Hollister flattering.

Be warned, most seem to be sold out. I started a new job in December and we’ve just been given the hot weather dress code. Shorts have to be knee length. I ended up ordering some from Lands End Shock. I’ll let you know what they’re like!

What shape are you?

I have slim waist and very wide hips, and Hush Marseille shorts or these: www.johnlewis.com/and-or-sunset-beach-denim-shorts-blue-amour/p4927193?size=14 are what I wear a lot. Both are mid rise and loose fitting (unless you size down). I hate tight or high rise Grin

Not too short, not too long

Both a bit £££ but last well

Have a nice cheap pair from Matalan too.

But if you’re more straight up and down Boden is usually cut well for that shape (I can’t wear Biden due to hips)

I bought some shorts from Lands' End last week and got the chino shorts with a 7" inside leg (because I'm old and have thread veins so want them covered enough). They're very comfortable, and even my very fashion-conscious son complimented them. They are very bright, with tiny lemons printed all over. Last year's model, but a bargain at £20. The sizing is generous, I could have gone a size smaller (but there weren't any left) and I prefer shorts a bit loose.

I like the TopShop style above. I wish I'd seen them earlier.

@XingMing I saw those, they looked lovely & I would have bought them, but they’re too short to wear for work 😕. I’m an hourglass shape: 11” difference between waist & hips & agree with pp that Boden don’t fit well. They’re either too big on the waist or too tight on the hips.

@Cheapskatemum, I bought the high rise waist-tie linen, also in the sale, in a longer knee-length which might work for you... but they're a bit more like a divided skirt. And I shall turn them up one hem length after they've been washed because they're a bit too long on me. DS doesn't like these very much but they are comfortable. Everyone has loved the lemon shorts .

I think there's a 9" leg in the chino shorts too @cheapskatemum.

Yes, sold out in my size though 😕. I thought the linen ones would crease, which isn’t a look I cherish! Thanks for the suggestions though. I could set an alert for when the 9” ones are back in stock. Also, I could look out for more skirt/shorts as they’d be practical for work (support worker in a residential children’s home).

I just had 2 pairs of Boden Richmond shorts arrive, 3 and 6 inch, and both make my thighs look thunderous. they're going back. weirdly I got some from Abercrombie and Fitch last year, cut offs, nearly daisy dukes!! made for young uns but if I pull them down a bit they look (mainly)decent.

Finding shorts is a fine art

Too long = frumpy

Too tight makes you look fat

Too big makes you look fat

Often shorter is better Shock

@Pikachubaby, I agree, but try telling my boss that 😂.
