Brassy highlights

Uhohmummy · 21/05/2020 22:02

My hair is looking terrible at the moment. I had highlights put into my mousy hair about 6 months ago. They’ve now gone really brassy - a horrible bright yellow. Can someone please recommend something to tone it down until I can get it done professionally again?

Any blue tone shampoo works wonders

I love Shades of London toner in Silver Shadow - I mix it in with my conditioner and it knocks the brassiness right out and makes it much more ashy

Fudge purple shampoo was recommended on here. It's sorted my highlights out although I now have purple hands. Grin

I’ve tried a few different purple shampoos, I’ve found John Frieda violet crush, works best

I’m using the Colour Wow dream filter. Purple does work, but my roots are so grey, it turned by roots purple!!! Luckily it washed out.

But yes, brassy highlights here too

Definitely try a purple shampoo. Blue is for orange tones

Definitely Bleach London Silver shampoo. I have been asked few times in work (hospital) if I’ve had my hair coloured in lockdown as it looks fresh.

Osmo or Fanola silver no yellow shampoo. They come out almost black they are so dark purple. I leave mine on for a few minutes.

I've been using Bleach London silver shampoo since I got my hair done last time and its fab, still super light blonde and not brassy at all. It always went brassy before

I know you’ve had lots of recommendations already, but I swear by the Matrix brass off mask. It genuinely will transform your colour.

Ive been using Loreal purple shampoo and conditioner (they also do a purple toned hair mask) to keep my blonde hair fresh. Also recommend Tresemme pearl blonde shampoo and conditioner.

Thank you all so much!
I think I will try the Fudge clean blonde or Bleach London as those are the easiest for me to get hold of. Fudge London users - do you use the shampoo or conditioner (or both)?

Yes Bleach London Silver Shampoo is brilliant.

I use both, I leave the shampoo on whilst it works as a toner. I got 2 huge salon sized litre bottles from eBay I think it was about £47. Smells amazing too!

Can I ask please whether any of these will take the orangey tone out of my hair that was box dyed with a light ASH brown? For some reason I every hair dye always looks orangey in the light. Hate it!

Its blue shampoo thats supposed to neutralise orange tones.

Ive used all the usual purple treatments, Bleach, Fudge etc, they are ok and will make some difference. But, if you want something seriously powerful that will truly tone down the yellow don't go past Fanola No Yellow. Its the big guns of purple shampoos as far as I'm concerned.

After reading the reviews I’m going with Fanola No Yellow - although I am a bit scared as it sounds very pigmented! Any tips for use?
