www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&categoryId=67 931&parentcategoryrn=42344&productId=406941&langId=-1 - it is for a school reunion, we are going out to a nightclub but I want to wear something other than jeans + nice top. I am at the moment a size 16/18, but know topshop will be a small 16 so will lose weight, so will look abit different from my profile pic. I saw someone my size in strapless, and though it looked flattering but am not totally sure whether I'll look ok in it... please advise me style gurus!

HAve you got good shoulders and arms?

Think it would depend how you are in the shoulder dept, tbh. Toned, yes, bingo wings, no.

oh buggeroo, on my other screen name - I am Quootiepie if you can look up profile or, i'll go change my name so you can click on me. I thought black peep toes? Or my old faithfuls - a black pair, think they may be called Mary Janes or something? I do have a great black strapless bra that is pretty supportive... let me go change my name so you can have a good ol' nose at me. BTW my hair will be dyed chocolate brown and probably have some side fringy style thingy done soon, not the brown/gold natural colour in the pic.

tarty imo. Too much flesh on display

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:43

Here I am...

See, being fat of arms watching that what not to wear programme they said don't get short sleeves, so it'll have to be 1/4 way down my arm at least otherwise and I am really pants at finding clothes.

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:44

with that dress you need to have thin arms and good shoulder definition

topshop will have far better dresses imo

size 16/18 you say? will have a peruse

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:44

tarty Oh deary! I wonder how short it is... I presumed it was about knee ish length.

I don't like it at all.

And since you say you've got meaty arms - I would have to advise against.

Actually, I'd advise against regardless.

I really don't like that dress.

[guilty] but you did ask.

Quootiepie · 19/09/2007 21:45

O, I don't have the pic I thought up - I have lost weight since that picture!

Report
oliveoil · 19/09/2007 21:45

you need arms in the dress imo kind of like this

Report
missbumpy · 19/09/2007 21:46

I like the dress but I agree with other posters that you need to have skinny/toned upper body to work the strapless look. I haven't seen your picture BTW, I'm just going on what you've said

At the end of the day, it's down to what you like. If you feel good wearing it then go for it! I personally love strapless numbers.

and that dress will waft over any bulges (which I also have at size 12 due to belly I can't be arsed dealing with)
