I’ve been ill for a few weeks now and before I took to my bed I put my hair up in a scrunchie. Now four weeks later it is time to sort it out. It’s going to take a few days as I’m still recovering so I can only take so much.

I thought it might be fun to document the transformation from mad cat lady to mad old lady again.

My hair normally down to my bum so this is not going to be fun but I cannot wait for it to be back to normal again.

Oh ouch OP. How are you doing now? Can anyone help? (Do a tiny bit for you with a tangle teezer? Any deep hair conditioning treatment you can leave in for a bit? Shock

Try Charles Worthington Gentle Detangling Spray from Boots

My DH is doing it. He’s just done my DS who has waist length hair, so we’ve learnt a lot from that.

We’ve made a start on mine. Only two ten minute sessions so far but it’s all I can take today.

Pictures after the scrunchie was taken out.

Are you well enough to give it a good soak in the bath then put loads of conditioner on?

Thanks for the idea @Terralee I’ve ordered some. Hopefully that’ll make it easier.

Unfortunately we are in a house with just a small shower cubicle @Doyoumind. DH tried doing something like that with DS and it caused him a lot of problems.

Progress for today. Unfortunately I’ve lost a few inches as it broke but it’ll grow again. The amount of hair that the tangle teaser is removing is frightening as well.

I know from working in a hospital that hair is often last on the list of priorities when someone is very ill.
It's hard to get the knots out of the back of (usually female) patients hair who is or has been bed bound especially in hospital when you have no hair products to work with - I've actually had to cut some knots out.
Sometimes there's been conditioner available on the ward which I've used on dry tangled hair, one time I had hair serum in my handbag so used that on the patient.

My hair is fine & tangles up even after conditioning so I've found the CW spray to be a game changer.

A 'wet brush' would get through this in no time, and very gentle on hair. Hope you're feeling 100% soon, take care.

Magnificent hair btw.

Thanks @Terralee Star The detangler arrived and it's been a game changer. It's still not done and will probably take a few more days but we've managed to get quite a bit done today and it took a lot of the ouch out of it. I've still got a birds nest but it is going.

@JMAngel1, you have my sympathy.

@SprinkleOfInsanity, wet brush and the detangler is getting there.

Thanks for your kind words everyone and your help.

Dds long hair got tangled once on a school residential trip. It took a couple of hours as somehow the tangles were right up to the roots. Anyway I sprayed with a mixture of 2/3 water 1/3 conditioner and used a fine comb to pull out small strands.

The hair that you would normally lose hasn't been brushed out for the last for weeks. It's all coming out now so the amount coming out on the tangle teaser probably isn't as bad as it looks.

I seem to recall < I had hair loss in one pregnancy > that you normally shed 60 to 100 hairs a day. So it’s probably not as bad as it looks - plus your hair is long so visually looks a lot more too. I found using the tail of a tailcomb to tease out the last < worst > tangled section was beneficial. Like finding the key knots and pushing or holding ‘Key’ strands released others more easily.

Oh and work ends up to roots it’s kinder!

Yes up to 100 hairs fall per day. You will have a lot come out but don’t worry they are just the ones which would already be out if not for your scrunchie

After drying out and sleeping on it it was a trifle mucked up again but believe it or not it wasn’t too bad to brush out.

My DH brushed and sprayed and sprayed and brushed it and he got a load more out. Again it looked quite good but there is still a nest between the layers.

This was last night and once my DH is feeling up to it he’ll start again. 20 minutes is all I’m really managing at the moment so progress is slow but at least we’re getting there. Now it’s dried it’s looking nest like again but not as bad.

It definitely is in bad shape though so will need quite a bit chopped off.
