What are your top tips for being 'put together'?

Hello wise stylish ladies.

I need some style help. It's never been innate in me - I'm a dress for comfort kinda person - jeans, hoodie, no make up etc.

But I'm in my early 30s now and not sure I can really pull it off much more! I had my second baby last week and I'm feeling like a frumpy, leaking blob.

Other than a quick shower in the morning, how can I look half decent with a toddler and a baby without committing too much time to it...? Any top tips on speedily not looking like I've been dragged backwards through a hedge please?

I'm planning to revamp my wardrobe a bit. I love tea dresses and that sort of thing, so going to try and find some 'day dresses' for the summer as a start, to stop my living in shorts and t shirts.

Hopefully I will be able to have my hair done soon as I have horrendous roots which doesn't help!

Any tips please oh wise ones 😊?

I feel your pain OP.

Here's what I did:

  • do your eyebrows, wear some mascara, concealer and lipbalm
  • wearing my hair in a neat bun (easy hairstyle) combined with some nice earstuds. For some reason pearl earstuds make me look very put together immediately!
  • I wore jeans and flat shoes but black jeans instead of blue ones and ballet flats instead of trainers
  • I had no time to go to the manicure so just filed my own nails, keep them short and file them in a neat shape, use some lovely handcream, hands make a big difference!

Hope this helps! The frumpy leaking phase will be over soon, I felt after birth I had to feel my body was becoming 'mine' again and it took even a few months. Be kind to yourself and congratulations on your new baby Flowers

I’m with you OP 🙋🏻‍♀️!

I am a no make up , leggings, hoody person but as PP has suggested, those steps are exactly what I do to try and make myself feel better. Bun, pearl studs , eyebrows (I actually had mine tinted before lockdown which made a real difference) and a nice tinted lip balm (I use dior glow balm)

I do understand how rough you feel at your stage but it does get better. Little things can really help feel a bit more like yourself .

I actually brought a really good tinted moisturiser from a brand called Glossier (skin tint) it’s really an extremely light tinted moisturiser but it just makes you look a bit more alive . I recommend

For me good skincare makes all the difference, I'm a fan of Liz Earle. Their new eye brightening cream is good to lift dark circles!

Personally for me I feel ‘put together’ when I:
-wash hair, brush it
-exfoliate, shave, moisturise my whole body
-tan or use tanning cream
-filled in eyebrows
-mascara
-powder face
-Look online on instagram to find outfit inspiration

Generally I think the most put together women tend to stick to quite neutral and simple clothing in white, black, beige like a Parisian style. For example dark wash jeans or black jeans with a white shirt tucked into it with a black leather belt looks more fashionable than a bright coloured t shirt and a skirt. I’d recommend researching some wardrobe staples and look into what shapes will suit you.
It’s hard to tell what would suit you when we don’t know what you look like but remember to wear what makes you feel comfortable

For me it's
Eyebrows - tidy and filled in/tinted.
Nails - I do my own gel polish every couple of weeks but even just neatly filed nails with a clear nail varnish on top is good.
Toe nails - I always have trimmed, painted toe nails, it just makes me feel put together even if no one else sees them.
Make up - only if I'm going out (so not much atm). I'll at least put a bit of mascara, concealer and powder on if I'm leaving the house.
With regards to clothes, I wear jeans a lot but I have lots of nice tops to wear with them and I also love tea dresses so wear them quite a lot. I'm definitely no fashion expert but I try to make an effort and think about every outfit.

I think everyone feels frumpy in the first couple of months after having a baby. It definitely took me a while to get back into the swing of things with making an effort on my appearance after having dc's. Life is just so full on at that time and it slips to the bottom of the list. Don't put pressure on yourself to look perfect and polished! It's hard enough for most of us what with lockdown let alone a new baby thrown in the mix. Congratulations on your baby Flowers

I have a friend who is always put together.

She never leaves the house without make up.
She never leaves the house without her hair being done.
She keeps to a fairly minimalistic wardrobe.
She alway has big sunglasses on going to and fro places.

I am not saying you need to do all that (I certainly don’t!), especially with a new baby, but even just adopt one thing/ new habit that you stick to.
